Comment:
Professor Welke is very kind and smart, but her lectures feel like she's word vomiting all of the material at once. Lectures are very unorganized, and power points shown in class have little to do with the material she's talking about. Grading criteria is 100% subjective, and there's no mention of it in the syllabus.

Really enjoy her class. Very interesting and considerate of student's ideas. Doesn't assign too much work, and what is assigned is usually pretty interesting.

Prof Welke is wonderful, caring, and she made US Women's Legal History a fascinating subject. She accepted feedback from the class when we felt we were assigned too much reading. The whole class was interesting. The essay prompts were difficult in that she expected us to include a huge amount of material into a short paper, but it wasn't so bad.

Professor Welke is an amazing lecturer. Her power points are very well organized, and participation is mainly through clicker questions. She makes sure to post everything on Moodle. If you have questions, she will do her best to help. The assigned papers were quite challenging, but the work put into it was beneficial to my learning.

Prof. Welke is an awesome professor! As a history major, I already loved the topic, but she made me feel inspired and like I was in the perfect place. She was also very willing to help me meet my goals beyond the class, and put me in contact with places to intern and volunteer.

She is the worst professor in the History Department. Her courses are composed of nothing but "busy work," and she has a genuine inability to consider how her approach to teaching prevents students from advancing toward finishing their degrees. I feel sorry for those that have to work with her on a permanent basis.

extremely respectful and helpful. grading system is a little complicated and expects hard work, but is obviously extremely passionate and loves to teach. great for a discussion type class, might be more difficult to work with in a class more structured around tests or homework. a great teacher i would definitely recommend.

She is an incredibly intellegent woman, and I, and the rest of my class, had the utmost respect for her knowledge base in the subject. She's a lawyer and historian, and she knows a lot about both! Her grading expects students to be at the top of their game, esp if she knows you're a good student. Meet with her outside class, it is fun and helpful!

She needs to learn to shorten her thought process, why use 5 words when 1 will work? Really dry and takes forever to make a point. She thinks that she is very new and rev. in her thought process but shes not. And really a 17 page syllabus, and spending 2 weeks ging over it?

Law in American Life. Look, here's an area that could too easily degenerate into a catalogue of American failures. Instead, religion, environmentalism, and slavery were all handled more thoughtfully than I thought possible. Genuinely not enough room to express my admiration for this professor. Guided class discussions better than anyone I've known.

Nothing against Welke, I thought she was helpful and really know her stuff, BUT the grading was really, really tough and there is no negociating on grading. Her lectures were really unstructured, and she says um in every sentence. This class did give me a different perspective on history, but it's tough!

Lectures were a tough hell to live through. So I discontinued attendance 1/2 way thru the semester. Unbelievably random - needs better note outlines. All of the assignments & grading are done thru the disc. leader. My discussion leader, Andrea Robertson, was great. She kept us sane & somewhat interested. The paper for this course is BS. Rec: NO.

Seemed to hold pretty narrow viewpoints on issues and presented mostly those. She gave little time to opposing views. I know this isn't PC, but she seemed gender biased against men, and I'm not one. She does know her area of expertise. She did provide lots of info - essays were graded pretty tough.

Absolutely Terrible. Any Prof. that has you read their own book for the class is already off on the wrong foot. She was one of the worst possible profs out there. Who cares if she has a number of degrees, she can't teach!

Horrible. I did not like her lectures, she talked way to fast to even write anything down, and then you were expected to quote her in your papers! The paper topics were boring and if you didn't write exactly what she was thinking you got a bad grade. She knew history but should not a good teacher.
