I'm 3 lectures in, and I already have a horrible feeling. Coughs every 3 seconds, mumbles and talks to the board. Draws molecules like flowers, which I have never seen done by anyone. So far, it has just been review and I feel like I know nothing about gen chem (I did very well in gen chem). Lecture is very unorganized.

Comment:

Professor Ellison is unmotivated, disorganized, and often incoherent. I learned nothing from attending his lectures, and he inexplicably decided to require the use of an uncommon, very confusing, and totally ineffective textbook. This was a terrible course; I learned so little that I decided against taking organic chemistry 2. Avoid this teacher.

His tests used to be EXACTLY like the practice tests, but he got called out by the dean and now he actually has to teach! I learned more skipping his classes and reading the book. But it doesn't matter how much you read since the tests are so poorly written the averages are around 40%. Wouldn't recommend for anybody!!

He's an incredibly entertaining teacher and as long as you put in the work, you are guaranteed and easy A. People tend to dislike him because he makes you think for yourself, but this is not a bad skill to have. I learned a ton from him.

Comment:

Barney is only interested in his research. He repeatedly used the F word and other profane words. He has turrets syndrome & can hardly articulate himself. He's brilliant & goofy but rude & could care less about his students. He has a facebook "fan" page of all his quotes he says in class. His TA was great but just got her Ph.D & is gone now.

Funny, interesting man, terrible teacher. Would actually recommend because the two tests so far have been DIRECTLY from previous tests or a few HW problems. Easy to study for his tests. Asking questions in class is a joke though, don't waste your time.

I had him the second time that I took Organic 1. He is hilarious. His class is in no way boring, and his cussing definitely spices up the class early in the morning. Taking him for the first time in Organic would probably suck since he makes no sense.
