Surface Processes was pretty much just a class you showed up to, did a little field work and lab work, turned in a couple of papers and got a grade. You don't learn much besides a bit of field technique. Anyone who says you need to have completed the series before taking is false. Turn in papers on time and make them look neat, that's half of it!

Only reason a 4 was given for helpfulness if for my TA. He clarified the assignments and helped with every in class assignment during recitation. The class really isn't that hard, theoretically, because the professor is very non-chalant about grades. The quizzes (on-line) only allowed 10 min to complete...and he never posted answers to them either.

Nobody, and I mean nobody, knew what was actually going on in the class. Half the time he canceled class because "he didn't see the the point." It seems like he forgot to plan and just kind of bumbled through each class. Clearly a knowledgeable guy, but has no idea how to teach. It infuriates me that I pay money for classes like this one.

Dissappointment for sure. assumes u know what he is talking about. He doesn't make assignments real clear. I really thought this class would have been more interesting than it is.

The man is brilliant and it is obvious. He is the kind of guy, if you are interested in the subject at least, who you could just sit and listen to all day, and he will amaze you with the connections he makes. He makes the most complex and radical ideas seem so common sense, it just blows my mind. He has the kind of mind I only wish I had.

Do not take an intro class with Maynard. The assignments didn't even make sense to my friend, a GEOLOGY MAJOR, the description of the class was not what the class actually covered, and it was pretty much an all around disappointment. What should have been an easy class turned out to be more difficult than it was worth.

Geochemistry of Natural Waters. Graduate level course. Chemistry background obviously helpful. Professor moved at a reasonable pace and provided an informative learning setting. Recommended.

He's incredibly brilliant. So intelligent in fact, that he has a difficult time coming down to anyone's level. A good guy, though, who gts along with everyone and is excellent to work with.
