Barry is kind and really cares about students who show an interest in the material. His lectures can get dry, but you can tell he really loves what he does and is passionate (and therefore helpful) about what he teaches.

Comment:

Mitnick is very knowledgeable and accessible to students. He cares about the material and is always excited for a lecture. The tests sort of range in difficulty but the class overall is not too hard if you pay attention and understand his overarching points.

Definitely recommend. Lectures can get boring, but for the most part he keeps the class engaged and you actually talk about some interesting topics. Tests weren't bad, just pay attentiontake notes. Not sure if you need the book, it didn't help me much at least, just used my lecture notes. DON'T PAY FOR WSJ. Get it for free over in Sennott!

Created course from his research, he is really interested in the material.Definitely a good lecturer.Worthwhile class for any macroecon/bus major.YOU MUST GO TO CLASS. His tests are verbatim the main discussion points in class. Reading requirement is minimal. Pay attention in class and take good notes and you will not really need to study at all

I really liked his class! If you go to class and take notes on all the material: his slides, readings, and videos you will get an A on the tests. 3 tests and a blog post. Easy extra credit. I would recommend his class!

mitnick really knows his stuff but is really bad at conveying what is important to the class. he shows very good videos and movies and tells interesting stories but then you go to study for the test and realize you have nothing besides a jumble of slides with random things on them. i would wait and take another prof for ethics for sure

Comment:

Barry Mitnick's lectures seemed to convey simple material but when it came time to take the tests, they were always much more difficult than one would expect. The material learned all seemed pretty obvious and like common sense, but the tests really threw people for a loop. I would recommend reading the book before tests.

Comment:

Take a different professor for this Ethics class. The material is useless and you don't learn anything from the class. There are much easier professors out there for this class; no point in taking a hard one for such a topic. Group projects are a huge pain; not rewarding, at all. Take another professor, honestly.

DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is incompetent. The grade is 60% group projects 40% tests. The questions on the tests are horribly written. The group projects are insane and you are lucky if he gives you higher than a C on them.

Mitnick knows his stuff and he loves to talk about what he knows. He loves to help students learn and he really cares about the success of his students. He is not looking to trick, mislead, or fustrate anyone but he expects you to make an effort to learn and he rewards that effort when he sees it.

Hes a pretty nice guy and its obvious he knows his stuff. The tests are a little tricky but everything comes from the book or notes. Memorization is required. Lastly, your project grade will be up in the air. It is an extremely vague project and he will grade harshly if he feels you didnt meet his exact standards. If you get a poor group, good luck

Comment:

Definitely one of my favorite professors at Pitt. Very well spoken, excellent lecture presentation, and he brought current events into the class and really helped explain the financial crisis, as well as various public relations and lobbying concepts. Would advise reading the book for some free test answers, even though it can be a little boring.

Talked alot during lectures about current events which was good to know but mostly not on exams..hes really smart and his language in class/readings can be difficult to understand at times..2 projects and 2 exams are your grade, they are fair and not hard if you put effort into them and study...took a while to grade projects; otherwise good teacher

He is such a sweet man, so helpful, and very intelligent. He is clearly very interested by the topics he teaches which makes attending his lectures all the more enjoyable. His sense of humor is great too. Highly recommend this class.

Barry is a good guy. He keeps the lectures interesting with current real world videos and news clips. The tests can be a little bit difficult, but if you go to class you should do fine. A lot of reading is assigned, I did hardly any of it and got a B.

OOooh what a teacher! I went to all classes mainly to laugh at Mitnick, he'll sit in the corner laughing at his videos its a funny time! Read your book, Read your Notes, Put his notes in your own form!! I got a few points above averages and Mitnick gave me an A-. Always shows a few videos in class- it's a good time.
