Comment:
I took his intersession philosophy class and wasn't very impressed. Dr. Ward really knows what he's talking about but almost too a fault. He goes off on tangents and talks about things that don't seem relevant to the topic but then it shows up on the test. His study guides are nice but its more important to pay attention to what he says in class

Dr. Ward really knows his stuff. He typically comes to class with just a marker and talks the entire time. If you are not into philosophy it is hard to stay engaged. There are six pretty easy pop quizzes if you read and he drops one. The only other grades are two essays and three tests that are multiple choice with an essay.

I took Mr. Ward for intro to logic. It was a fairly easy class, show up, take notes, ask questions if you don't understand the material. He's really good about giving plenty of examples and he is good about not calling people out to answer, but just letting you answer if you think you know it. Plus he has an accent and is a silver fox.

He's very down to earth, although a bit disorganized. There wasn't a midterm or final. The three test are very easy, and each test has an essay component.

He's one of the smartest professors I have ever taken but not in an obnoxious kind of way but rather in a crystal clear I can break down quantum mechanics for a 3rd grader. He is also an easy grader and if you have borderline letter grade he will always round up to it. great teacher , i recommend him. However philosophy of physics is not trivial

I took Dr. Ward for both Intro to Logic and Intro to Philosophy, and absolutely loved him. Easy A if you pay close attention in class and take good notes! Very intelligent and helpful. And he's totally hot bye

Dr. Ward is a really great professor. He's funny and engaging even during an almost four hour lecture. Also, he's nice to look at, in that silver fox sort of way, and the accent doesn't hurt either.

PHIL 2003H. Very hilarious and interesting guy. He's extremely knowledgeable in the field of philosophy and typically answers questions with questions. He's brilliant and expects you to do well on any papers, so make sure to put in an effort. Exams are relatively difficult, but if you study you should be fine! Awesome guy with a cool accent.

Bottom line, if you are serious about Philosophy and thinking about making it a "career" then take Ward. If you are just taking it because you need it, then take a different professor because he is hard!

Dr. Ward is a great professor. He can sometimes ramble, but it is usually because the subject material is conceptually intense. The class i took was Phil & Phys, which is a must take for any science, math, or philosophy major. The exams and assignments are tough, but Dr. Ward is an easy grader.

Nice guy. Attendance was optional, though all tests are based on class notes. His Irish accent is awesome. He grades quite strictly for an intro. level course. I didn't really care for Philosophy, but he made it pretty fun.

Barry Ward is possibly my favorite professor at the UofA. He has a wonderful irish accent and dresses nicely to boot. If you enjoy philosophy, as did when I was in high school (I was avid reader so I might be biased) but he taught me a lot. Because he's so well-versed in philosophical discussion, I felt taking him over another would be helpful.

BEWARE of pop quizes. They aren't worth very much but you really need to go to class to get the points. He is sooooo smart which makes him hard to understand sometimes. He loves to talk to students and discuss so sometimes you will spend the whole class talking about one specific idea, so do your homework. GREAT GUY

I am in love with Barry Ward, He was one of my first teachers as a freshman, and he captivated me. Now I am a senior and he is once again my teacher! By chance. He is incredibly intelligent and I can't take my eyes off him.

He's a nice guy. Intelligicence radiates from this guy, but that can tend to be his drawback. He'll just ramble incomprehensibly sometimes, and you'll wind up not covering any new material in class. You can do no work, and still get a solid B...as I did. I still say he's a good teacher tho, and I came out knowing more than when i came in.

Really intelligent guy, since it was a subjective class it was sometimes really hard to grasp what he wanted us to know. He has a great accent and knows all the information, read everything he assigns and the semester will be a lot easier. Go to drill! Great teacher, alright class. **look into an easier prof. if you're looking for an easy "A".

Dr. Ward is a fantastic professor. His lectures are interesting, amusing, clear, and delivered in an excellent Irish (definitely not Scottish) accent. The grading was simple, and if you go to class you'll be able to pass the quizzes and tests with very little difficulty. I definitely recommend him.

Barry is a terrific instructor. He speaks with a scotish accent and is very knowledgable in Philosophy. You dont need to buy the book, all his test questions come from in-class lectures. There's only like 2 tests and 2 papers due during the whole semester. Go to his lectures and write down everything he says and you're garenteed to get a high grade

He was a fair guy gives you everything you need to know for test on study guide, study notes hard. AND GO TO DRILL. some people don't realize it's part of your grade. Know premises and objections to arguments, Not difficult just study the notes. Don't wait to do paper last minute, it's graded pretty hard.
