Pure lecture, knows what he's taking about, but could use with some structure (hard to tell what's a fun fact and what's going to be on the test). Easy grader on test/papers with lots of partial credit. You will fall asleep, but try to take notes. don't need to do the readings, he'll go over all you need to know in class. Secretly funny, but weird.

There was a LOT of reading for this class, but it isn't too hard. Daily meditation and discuss in a journal. Creative project for a final. No tests :) just show up (attendance/participation graded) get through guided meditations and discussions of readings and you should be alright. Really nice guy and very helpful

This class was so boring. He's really into what he does, but clearly not are his students. He had kids falling asleep on the first day of class. Get the books because you have to read everyday before class & discuss what you've read. He assigns 2 short papers, but if you don't know how to write a philosophy paper, you should learn before submitting

He's a nice guy- loves helping people out; his class is also really interesting. I had him for a seminar on the Republic. It was one of my top two classes at UMW! Definitely recommend him!

Great professor! Very nice to all his students, and genuinely interested in the subject. His lectures may be a little long, but interesting if you like philosophy. Gives good examples and likes telling stories around the subject matter. You don't have to do all the readings, but they help. Don't skip class! Tests are easier if you attend lectures.

I love Ambuel. He's adorable. His lectures are long, but he tries to make them interesting; that said, they are still boring. It's easy to fall asleep in his class. You do need to study for tests, and there are a few papers. Don't really need to read - you can google a lot of the stuff. I highly recommend him!!

He's a really nice guy and will help you, but his lectures are so boring. Unless you love philosophy, you're going to hate this class. I would recommend this professor and class only if you have alot of interest in philosophy

This class is very easy to do well in as long as you read the textbook and put real effort into completing the weekly assignments (writing a paper and accompanying speech on a chapter of "The Republic"). Dr. Ambuel is a nice guy; he's very willing to help you out as long as he can see you're genuinely trying. It's a really interesting class.

I came into this semester expecting this class to easily be one of my favorites, but I was proven terribly wrong. He's a horrendous lecturer and could not have made a class on Imagination any more dull. I spent every class wanting to beat my head against the wall, which was incredibly disappointing.

Professor Ambuel is awesome (and adorable)! I had a lot of fun in his class. Phil100 was my favorite class this semester. It is by no means an easy class (even though it's 100), but if you want to learn how to think on your feet, churn out arguments like a boss, and have deep discussions, TAKE THIS CLASS! He's helpful and a generous grader too.

Awesome professor. Knows his stuff and is brilliant, but also extremely nice. Good guy, with a good sense of humor. I plan on taking any other classes with him that I can, and I'm seriously considering double majoring after this class. Work hard on the papers, they count a lot, and come to class and you'll be fine, it's a fun and not difficult clas

he is the man. if i had not been a bum and gotten classes I wanted instead of being lazy, I would never have taken a phil class. this dude made me love it and I graduated with a degree in philosophy b/c of him and C. Vasey. He is funny as hell if you listen to him at all times...if you dont, you will miss a lot of hilarious jokes. i love D.A.!

A nice guy & a good teacher. The class was pretty easy for me, considering that I hadn't taken any philosophy courses before, didn't go to class 2/3 of the time, and studied for tests at the last second (got a B overall.) The first paper is much easier than the second, imo. Analyzing Berkeley in one page or less is *not* easy. Still, take him.

A little boring, but a lot of that can be blamed on the subject. Not many grades to get in the class, so read and do well on the 2 tests and 2 papers and you're set.

Really pretty easy if you do the readings. If you ask he'll give you a study guide and if you know everything on it you're set for the tests. Take good notes in class.
