Best description I can think of is: imagine Sybill Trelawney from Harry Potter teaching your Information Processing class. Very passionate about the topic obviously, but very odd socially. Has a sort of "mystical" feel when he speaks which is not what I expected in a school of computing. Lectures are at his pace and not the students'.

Terrible, stuck up and downright mean to students. Dislikes anyone who a) questions him, b) points out errors or inconsistencies in the material or test, or c) doesn't actively suck up to him. Watched him try to accuse a classmate of cheating over a mistake he made, and flat out told another student who was asking for clarification on two conflicting quiz questions to "drop it, what I say is what is right".

Everything he says seems sort of vague and absolutely anything said in class, in his lecture powerpoints (which are posted to Blackboard), or in the book is fair game for the tests and quizzes. He doesn't explain things clearly and if you ask what's important to know for a test, he will just say "Everything." All of the tests are comprehensive.

He tests to see if you have a photographic memory based on the text readings and the powerpoint slides that he won't let you use to study the material. A lot of time is required for his extremely difficult class. He is the worst teacher I have ever had, and by far.

This class is all about memorization. He really just cares about himself. He doesn't give any curves what so ever and his test questions are very random. Avoid him as possible and try to stay in his good side. DO NOT argue with him.

He wants you to fail. He is not understanding or caring. He is someone that only cares about himself. Do not get on his bad side just pray you pass. I had a 3.5 GPA and failed his class twice, its not about being smart with him..If he likes you he will grade you easy and if he doesn't then he will fail you.

Oh Dr. Abbassi! He was the hardest in your first CIS classes and then in upper level, once he's vetted you, he becomes more human. By the time you graduate you love the guy. I graduated 10+ years ago, and his lessons were some of the ones that mattered most. He's tough, but it s good for you. Stop your entitled whining!

I would understand his lack of instruction if this were a higher level course. One would have to be a mind reader to know what he wants from his assignments. I completely believe it is impossible to do well in this class, that he makes it that way and wants his students to fail. It should be about learning, not professor's egos.

Harsh on grading, his minimal point deduction is at least 2. Everybody is tired and very angry on his teaching style. Too arrogant and don't appreciate his student hard work. It's his way or highway. Very discouraging and unrealistic expectations. ...

His quizzes and tests cover obscure factoids. He tests to see if you've memorized the book and lecture notes, not on if you know the material. Group project is 6-7 members and takes a ton of time, but is not worth much compared to the exams. Assignments, while not terribly difficult, have ambiguous requirements.

His quizzes/projects are irrelevant and DO NOT represent understanding of material. There are often trick questions! He takes easy concepts and makes them convoluted and boring. He often wont post his OUTDATED/ERROR RIDDLED slides (which he reads as a form of teaching) before class. He would rather have a hard class than one that knows the info!

Reads straight from his ppt when teaching. Slow to grade his quizzes, not to mention how harshly he grades them. No curves whatsoever and almost all of his students are barely hanging on.
