There are no test for the whole semester. An easy A. I think she is the best professor in St John's. Only 3-4 one-page essays for homework the whole semester. Trip is interesting. Some classes will have trips on Saturday, but not her. We went to field trip during class time. Definitely take her if you have DNY class.

DNY is supposed to be an enjoyable class and I wouldn't say this was the worst class I've ever taken but it was so boring and we barely did anything. Really don't know why this class is an option.

ALthough the class was sometimes disorganized, she was so sweet throughout! she was also very understanding as long as you communicated with her. If you do all your work then this is an easy class to pass.

As a photo major, I hated her photo class. The class is extremely disorganized and has no course plan what so ever. Most of the time she asks the students what we should do for class that day. And completely pointless to have 3hours of class 2 days a week. She needs to get her act together.Also very awkward and makes me feel uncomfortable at times

Comment:

Lauto is very judgmental when it comes to people's projects. Instead of keeping DNY an easy class as it's supposed to be, she turns it into a difficult course that takes a lot of effort and a ton of mandatory trips FOR the projects. She's rude and simply expects you to know what she wants without rubrics or guidelines. It's not a fun photo class.

DNY is a pointless class to begin with. In Professor Lauto's attempt to "understand New York through photography," Professor Lauto loses the purpose of the class and judges your photography skills rather than your effort or work. There are too many stupid projects whose guidelines are unclear. DO NOT TAKE HER FOR DNY.

I dont find photography interesting at all so for me this class was so pointless. Was bored every single day. There are definitely easier DNY classes to find. We dont ever have to take notes in class. Have a few essays and photo essays and thats about it.

Prof. Lauto is very sweet, kind, and understanding, but not very good at managing a classroom. I wasn't interested in photography at all prior to this class, but my photos have really improved and I enjoy it more now. There were 6 assignments: 4 papers, a movie, and a research project. You will have to present in class. There are 2 mandatory trips.

Very nice and understanding. She tries to make this useless class as sufferable as it can be. Two major writing assignments this term, along with the walking tour reflections. She wants you to write about your own reflection and feelings instead of history and facts in her assignments.

Had her for DNY. You will learn more about Latin culture and Hispanic immigration than you will about New York. If you don't like taking pictures and writing papers about your feelings, this is not the class for you. Teacher is very sweet and understanding tho. Only bad part is a 4 and 6 page paper. Class is more work than other DNY classes

Her DNY class should be renamed "Discover Photography" or "Who Wants to be an Art Major?" This is an easy class as long as you do your 3 art assignments. Being an art teacher she emphasizes photography and artistic opinions much more than the history of New York.Great Class though. She tries her best to keep everyone awake & having fun.

She's amazing. Her photography class is strict, and alot of work, but she's so helpful and very understanding. The class is great for art majors and people interested photography. Don't take it if your lazy or just taking it to fill a requirement, its not a bs class.

Ok. Professor Lauto is a great teacher. I recommend her especially for ART majors but non art majors will enjoy the class too if you like looking at pictures. DNY with her is a mix of Photography and NY history. Its a very easy class. A few projects, a mid term and a take home final. It a laid back class. Guaranteed A if you do your work.
