Ben does care about you, but he has a very finit idea of what good design is, and he doesn't leave room for anything out side of his small box. Just paint everything orange and grey, and sand till your fingers fall off and you'll be fine

Honestly not at all helpful. Is super rude to certain students and singles people out and embarrass' them. Said that he didn't believe in constructive criticism. Also made sexist comments all through class and always seemed to single out the girls being super rude and making innapropriate comments.

I've taken 4 classes with Ben and I enjoy him very much. Love the stories and personality. You really need to talk to him if you are having trouble. He is very knowledgable and has a killer eye for what looks good. I have even noticed other profs will ask his opinion on forms.

Keeps things interesting for the class and he is very helpful with the feedback he gives you. Talks a lot about his past, probably just to be more personal with the students. Even if you have an early class, it is still really fun to go to and a great way to really wake up in the morning!

One of the best teachers I've ever had. Very helpful. If you ask him for something, he is very generous about giving you the all the time you need. He even gives out his cell phone number! The class is hard, but you will get great work for your portfolio out of it.

He's VERY disorganized. Whether or not what he says is true is at your discretion, I don't believe all of it. Um..we've talked to his wife and kids on web cam before...he plays favorites, I had to fight with him for a grade he promised me. He has a horrible memory, goes off on tangents and I HATE how I only have one thing for my portfolio.

Ben has near no idea about what is happening in the design world and thinks the chinese will take over the design world. He is getting comfortable with family life, and is one of the greatest story tellers I have ever know. It's painful to be in his class, but I simply can't stop loving his personality and attitude towards design. Simply Brilliant!

Very good teacher. Doesn't get in to design theory much for a design class, but his critiques are invaluable if you take the time to ask for them. Has a very strong real world experience. Is an ideal example of the real world teaching Stout claims to offer.

Comment:

Ben's projects were enjoyable but demanding. Projects are time consuming and require numerous ideation/selection/refinement processes but in the end produce portfolio work. The class was large so it is up to the student to approach for help but guidence is freely given and immensely helpful during the design process. Amusing stories make class fun!
