Bernie is the best geology professor at NDSU. His class was hard but that's because the material was. He makes learning fun and expects a lot out of his students. I was continually inspired to go above and beyond the expectations. I wish I could have all my classes from Bernie.

Really like his teaching style. Go to class everyday, he remembers everyone. Gives a quiz once a week, but it's only over really important stuff so it actually helps you study for the test. Tests are hard & long, but he is a great grader & will give you points if you really attempt the problem. Assigned a project, gives you an A if you try & learn

Extremely willing to help, both by email and by office hours. I didn't have the chemistry background that would have made this class easier, and it was very challenging, but with lots of reviewing and reading the text book I made it through. He often pulled test questions right out of the book or from his practice exams that he put on blackboard.

Great teacher! He's really nice and very helpful. He now puts the PowerPoints on blackboard with words removed, so you just need to download/print them and fill in the blanks. You have to understand the concepts in addition to memorizing terms. If just memorize, you will not do well. Recommend using flashcards for memorizing quickly and then going through the notes to understand the key concepts.

Pretty cool guy. He is good at explaining things. Powerpoints are boring, but if you go to class and take the notes you will do fine. Tests are pretty tough. Didn't even use my book.

His lectures aren't terribly interesting, but they are tolerable. His tests are pretty hard, so you have to study a fair amount. Most of the test material comes from the notes. He also provides old tests to study from. I didn't use them until the last couple tests, but they really, really help.

Avoid if at all possible. He seems like a nice guy, but his tests are WAY too hard for a 100 level class. I'd study my ass off and get D's on his tests. The other geology professors are much easier.

This class was awesomely interesting. If I had gone every day, I would have gotten a better grade, but it was my first year and I didn't care. I wish I could redo it, and if I could, I would take it through him.

Good professor, horrible class. I wouldn't recommend taking this course unless you absolutely have to. His tests were quite difficult for a 100-level course.

I spent more time studying for this class than I did for 3 of my 400 level courses...combined. Lectures are dull as he skips past slides with any writing to talk about a picture for five minutes. Tests were completely random as lectures had no real focus point.

This prof teaches only using powerpoint slides, which is fine, except for the fact that any slide that has writing on it is quickly clicked through in order to get to a slide with a diagram, which he will spend a long time explaining, but you won't be able to see.

I really wondered where he pulls his test materials from. I went to class most days, and was destroyed by the tests 60s and 70s on mosts tests. He was not clear at all on what he was testing on, or with the clarity of the test questions.
