This professor is wonderful! She is approachable and loves to meet with students. Her online class was interesting and I learned a lot about how to write college level papers. I am taking a second class with her. She was very encouraging. 2 discussions a week and 3-4 papers. The final paper is a 10 page research paper you choose the topic.

Not a great teacher at all during the summer. I do not recommend her to anybody. She puts a lot more work than what you do in a classroom. I put 100% of my effort in this class but still wasn't able to complete any of her work. If you just want to pass with an A, I wouldn't recommend her.

Horrible teacher! I do not recommend to anybody. She's a very hard grader and her online assignments are very unclear. She tries to help you, but will still give you an F on an assignment that you put a lot of handwork into. I worked hard in this class and felt like I got a very unfair grade. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!

She is a pleasant lady but a bit too eccentric for my tastes. As other reviewers said, she likes to assign a lot of busywork, especially for the Intro to College (COL M01) class that I had her for. This is basically Busywork: The Class, not a whole lot of point to it in my opinion. Does not like when you disagree with her on anything.

Shes fine, it's extremely easy to pass but she assigns too much busy work. This class was online and I spent way more time working on stuff for it than my actual on campus classes. It was not hard work necessarily, easy points. If you email she responds right away, which is really nice. She also allows revisions on all of the 3 essays you write.

She is a great teacher, always makes side jokes. A lot of reading but that is required for English classes. I recommend her and buy the books before the class starts or else you will be behind.

if you want to take a college english course that covers the same basics covered in 7th grade take this teacher. if you are a half decent writer and show up to a majority of the classes you will get an A. Other than that Beth is an idiot who assigns far too much busy work

She is a great teacher!! Don't listen to these other comments! Total of 4 essays but really easy. She is the easiest and nicest grader! If you don't like your grade on a essay, you can fix the errors she points out and turn it in again. I did that and she raised my grade from a B to an A. Emails right away. TAKE HER!

IMO the work load is high (30+ hours a week) IĆ¢€™m an average/weak writer. Tons of busy work. Same, tedious theme, struggling poor or visionary soul seeking truth, justice etc etc. If you ask questions, better catch on quick. Learned to stay cloaked. If scanned, made good eye contact, nodded frequently. Passed, no problemo. Have a great summer.

This was her first semester teaching this particular course material. It showed with the course material and due dates changing through out the semester. However, she was very helpful and understanding in grading and the course itself was interesting and she is very passionate about the material.

This teacher was very unclear about assignments and was not helpful. I dreaded doing the work for this class and completely hated it. All we did the whole semester was read one book. I became over it by the end. I recommend taking this course with anyone else. Horrible experience!

She is a great professor! She is willing to answer all questions and doesn't make yuou feel dumb. I took her online course which was much easier I think. She gives Extra Credit options. You read 1 book and do two essays on it. Which is very easy! The final is a research paper, which is easy as well! I would take her again!

Professor Gillis-Smith is an excellent professor who cares about her students. She does go over English grammar basics during class, but judging from the discussion posts at the beginning a lot of the students needed it. I enjoyed participating in the peer reviews. Everyone's writing improved over the course of the class. Great teacher!

She really is a very sweet and kind lady who wants to help the students, but at times she seems rather disorganized. The class was easy, a few essays here and there, but everything was very basic. Take it if you are already pretty developed in your writing and need a A. But if you REALLY want to improve your skill, I would take someone else.
