Ok. I am the worst French student in the whole world. I placed into here and definitely shouldn't have. So if that is your situation don't panic because I did! This class was so hard for me but Dr. Allen made it enjoyable which is not an easy thing to do. I took this for GER credit and left as fast as I could but if you like french he is great!!

Comment:

Dr. Allen is the best! He has a great sense of humor, and is always engaging. He does give a ton of homework, and may be a bit tougher than some of the other professors, but he is always in his office to help. If you like organized/ structured classes then take him! PS: he is huge on participation and offers extra credit.

Dr. Allen creates an engaging, fun, and effective learning environment in his classroom. Participation is SO important in his class, and if you are putting in enough work inside/outside of class, he will recognize that and you will do well in his class. Stay caught up on the homework, and review often. You have to work, but you learn SO much!

best professor I've had in college by far! He expects you to work hard, so if you're not interested in actually learning the material, don't take him. That being said, he looks for every opportunity to give points to students and is always available for questions via email or in his office. He consistently makes classes fun.

I love French, but Dr. Allen's first-year seminar was not the greatest. He's one of those professors who expects his class to be the most important thing in your life - above your family, your job, and other classes - and his teaching style reflects that very well. I thought it was unreasonable, but if you live & breathe French, you might be okay.

I was throughly confused by this bizarre online system that he uses. He is an interesting professor and a very tough grader. He uses the textbook so much that when mine came a week late I literally did not know how to do my homework online. And the online thing cost me over $100. Very nice person but terrible class experience.

I also had him for 333. He's the best French prof I've had. My 32 class was the best French class I ever took, and the second best class overall in four years at Furman. Dr. Allen is hilarious, he is understanding, he is interested in students' lives, and he knows how to teach. My French improved considerably. Take him!

Extremely helpful if you go to him. I didn't study as much as i should have. He is a great resource and puts emphasis on speaking skills. My highest grades in the class were on speaking which was previously a weakness. Many writing assignments. Moderately difficult tests but he put for effort to prepare us for it.

Dr. Allen is a really fun guy. He was the only Humanities professor whose lectures were enjoyable in the spring. He's animated and really likes what he's doing. Not the easiest teacher ever, but he's not that hard either.

I love him! One of my favorite professors at Furman. You do have to work but he's definitely a great guy -so funny and entertaining! He wore a mask on halloween and he loves being awkward. You will learn a lot and I always found him helpful and easy to understand!

My favorite teacher I've had so far. Also my advisor. I love him to death. You haven't lived until you've seen him quote Napoleon Dynamite. Sometimes sounds like he's honking when he laughs. :)
