Comment:

The most helpful and caring professor I've ever had. The class covers a lot of ground but his style is laid back. He is flexible and will help whenever he can. The best part is he has genuine interest in his students and meets one on one to discuss your path at Columbia. Extremely passionate about what he does. TAKE HIM!

Bill is genuinely a nice guy and takes the time to really help you with your images in class and outside of class if you ask him. Just try to take your pictures and turn them in and you'll be fine. You'll see more of his sense of humor as the semester unfolds. He does a lot of critiquing, but overall a great professor. TAKE HIM.

Bill is a fantastic teacher. He has been teaching at Columbia for over 20 years and it really shows. For photo 1 you get to take darkroom and critique with him which is really helpful. If you work hard you are going to learn a lot form him. He really cares about the students and helping hem to make the best photos that the can! Take his class!

Bill is the nicest guy ever! He's funny and easy to talk to. He's truly passionate about teaching and is always there if his students need help. What you put into the course is what you'll get out of it; shoot lots of film, go to the darkroom to make quality prints, and participate in critiques. I had him for both darkroom and foundations.

You can't dislike this guy. He's very helpful. Sarcastic and dry sense of humor. Definitely a one of a kind guy. One of the best teachers I've ever had. He could also teach the facts of life. I wish I could have him for more classes.

We nicknamed this class Photosophy b/c he never stops asking "What is this work about? WHY?" Just when you think you picked the project apart from every possible angle, he asks the same thing again. It's seems like a good thing, but after several months of questioning the same work the same way, it's VERY frustrating!!! I did not grow as an artist.

Bill's incredible. He's very down to earth... very helpful. He really knows his stuff. He's very meticulous about the details... but this is essential to learning photography, so it's good he is this way. He's not afraid to say "screw you" to the administration (or to the darkroom for that matter). He's a very good person to know at Columbia.
