My favorite philosophy professor at UCI ever. I literally looked forward to class each and every week and learned something through each lecture. That is what being a good professor is all about and Schwab is exceptional and amazing. Take him... no question about it. Those who say he is hard... this is college- stop being lazy and grow up!

Definitely a nice guy who is open to answer questions. However, his class didn't seem much like an "intro to law and society." The material was laid on pretty thick, and the reading was a tad difficult. However, class only consists of 2 essays so no homework..just don't bomb your essays and you'll be fine.

Easy A. His handwriting is illegible, but he handed out packets that helped explain his lectures as well. The class was easy and didn't take too much time. Oh, and I actually took something away from it as well. Highly recommended.

Martin is so sweet and adorable, but his lectures are boring so not many people show up. His lectures are hard to grasp and his handwriting on the board isn't readable. Still, it's easy to get a good grade because most don't read online articles (the only readings) and the discussion each week (20%) helps with the midterm/final papers (40% each).

Prof. Schwab is amazingly brilliant! He's very clear and concise on a philosophical level, so you have to pay close attention to him speaking or else you'll get lost. Read the texts and go to class ready to learn. Lectures are incredibly intriguing and his notes are topnotch. He's friendly and willing to help you out. Funny guy, i loved his class!

professor is not bad 3 pop quizzes and 2 essays. Grade will depend on TA as they grade your essays. Quizzes come from the book, so read. Quizzes are also given in lecture, which is the only reason to go. I think that this teacher writes reviews about himself, because he's OK not amazing

He's a smart man, and he is not very biased when he lectures. The readings were easy to understand and fun to read. Midterm and final are essays. This was an enjoyable class!

His lecture notes are very useful, although it requires a high level of reading comprehension so it may take some time to read through them. I found that going to lectures were pointless though, I couldn't understand him because of his accent and what I could understand, was already written in his lecture notes. He knows his stuff though.

Professor Schwab was brilliant! He really knows his stuff! The only thing I didn't like about him was that he expected us to know the philosophical terms he was using in his lectures, so that made it a little difficult to follow him at times. Go to your discussion though and the TAs help clear up a few things. The online notes are really helpful.

Schwab's a smart man with amazing ideas, but it's just too hard for him to clearly get those ideas into the heads of his students. I never used to fall asleep in class, but now I have. He's willing to speak with you after class, which is helpful, but you might as well just look at his online notes (which are very useful by the way).

One of the most brilliant teachers I have ever encountered! But his lectures are not THE most helpful things on the planet. I could hardly pay attention in class and usually depended on my discussion leader to help us break down what Schwab was saying to us. His online notes were really helpful for discussions and writing papers though.

Brilliant. Unfortunately, the material he covers isn't easy to get through- it's dense&can be monotonous; but he knows what he's talking about. Does a good job of making lectures as upbeat as possible, always enthusiastic,&easy to keep up. Midterm was easy, go to class& read the assigned texts!

Do not go to this professor's lectures expecting to learn or even to stay fully awake. His lectures should be given to seniors, not to freshmen as they are. His one saving grace is that his online notes of the lecture are great. I studied the midterm using only his notes and I scored well. As long as you look at his posted notes, you should do well

This man was not meant for teaching undergraduates. I found myself sitting among a bunch of freshman who didnt listen to a word he said. He is quite the philosopher, and its unfortunate his material did not reach out to the class as much.
