Comment:

Dr. Hickman is a fair and easy professor. I took his online Media Writing class and to be honest after reading the syllabus was dreading the class. However, the grading criteria and due dates are clear. Not only that but Dr. Hickman made an effort to ensure every knew when things were due. Read the material and read the instructions and pass.

Hickman bombards his online site with so much information that you can't find what you actually need. None of the links he gives are helpful. He hides the discussions and quizzes in obscure places. Most online classes have it organized with the modules. No set deadlines, LIMITED test availability, 36 hours to be exact. And he takes forever to reply

Doesn't even make eye contact with his students. You will not learn ANYthing from his classes. He says from the beginning it needs to be an online course. Show up to take quizzes online and it is all self taught. On top of that he doesn't talk to his students. Lots of eye rolling. Lots of snarky comments, and not in a funny sarcastic way. HORRIBLE!

I took his News Reporting class. He's a tremendous guy, and the class is fun. Class was 50 minutes long, but we usually got out of there in 30-40 minutes. I never got any work or tests back, though. It's nice that we edit the stories in class, but it would have been nice to see what I missed on tests and quizzes in order to improve for the next one

He was no help to me when I had family issues and couldn't make it to a few classes. He emailed me parts of the syllabus and basically said go away, and try again later. His attendance policy is terrible. He takes sporadic attendance and it reflected terribly on me and caused my grade to drop.

What a cool dude! tough but fair. All you gotta do is listen is class and away you go. Pretty fun and makes what you are doing relevant--up to date. Beware, though...put away that cell phone; it's not forgiving.

He is a terrible professor. Not only is he pompous, but he is down right rude. I haven't learned a thing in his class that I haven't taught myself. He really is one of the worst teachers at UCO. Stay away if you can.

Despite what everyone else has said, I would totally recommend Prof. Hickman. He's funny and his class isn't bad at all if you actually go to class. He's intimidating at first, but once you get used to him, you'll start to really love the class. TAKE HIM!

Agree on knowing grammar & spelling. You have to know it. No easy passes in this class. If you don't know grammar, you are going to get a grade you don't like. You have to take notes on stories and write down a lot of stuff. He is hard, but you will be OK ... if you know grammar.

if your grammar isnt 100% then you should take an english class before this one. Grammatical errors will get you an F. Dot the work and its a realtively easy class. you watch tv shows and write news articles about them as if you were a reporter witnessing the events. very cool. good sense of humor. be sure to speek yer english good!
