He was very chilled and bought a lot of excuses for absences. He picked and chose his favorites and didn't seem dedicated to the class. I didnt turn in 2 assignments and he didn't notice.

Comment:

Hochhausen isn't as bad as most commentators make him out to be. I don't agree that his grading is tough, it is fair. That aside, he is unclear, does not give definitive deadlines, and picks favorites. Grade wise, he gives a lot of B's, not C's.

Mr. Hochhausen is a nice guy and is always willing to help, but don't wait for him to come to you or you'll be waiting all day. Plenty of time to work on projects in class but does expect out of class work. Tough grader. Seems more interested in architecture than anything.

I don't recommend this professor at all. He grades very harshly and you have no hope of getting an A. He gives lots of Cs even if you do all the assignments well, which are boring to begin with. Whether he likes you determines your grade!

Heinously unclear. Inconsistent in advice. Ascribes an aesthetic to people, and then grades according to how much or little they deviate from said aesthetic. Very little actual instruction about any techniques. How did this man become head of the department? Something is rotten in the state of Prattmark.

If you are not one of his favorites, this class is horrible. It is people like him at Pratt that has convinced me to transfer. He would give me advice and once I did it he would hate it and blame it on me. If he is on your schedule, change! He is a good artist, but not a good teacher.

all semester i felt that he was an interesting man and even though i didnt enjoy the class, it was okay because he was intelligent. boy, was i wrong. i think out of my entire class i was the only one who participated or tried, and i got a C. every project he will make you re-do over and over and then in the end he will hate your final piece.

Bill Hochhausen is the most brilliant man I have encountered in my life. It doesn't matter what class he is teaching; each day he grants you infinite wisdom with his witty quips, poetry readings and love advice. He is a Renaissance man. Being around his persona if motivating and inspirational enough. Who cares about his breath? He’s a genius.

i think bill is a really cool guy. he is sort of "out there" but he lives life to the fullest. he does sculpture, drawing, filmmaking, architecture, and he memorizes poetry! it is very inspring being in his presence, even if he smells sorta bad.
