One of the best professors I have ever studied under. A's take some work, but if you do the reading and take solid notes, you can get them (I was 3/3). He designs his tests to see if you studied the notes and each of the sources - and he knows when you've failed to read something. Ex-CIA...fluent in Russian...you should probably listen.

One of my favorite professors at furman. Go to class and take notes, and you'll be fine. I don't read at furman, i only study notes, and I got an A in the class. Lectures are interesting. Tests are straightforward. Lavery is cool as****. Definitely take him if you get the chance.

Good lecturer, but not a good professor. Tests are on the most miniscule details so that even if you pay attention during every lecture, and study for the test, its pretty possible that you won't do well on it. Plus, he expects you to write test essay like research papers without your sources in front of you.

Great professor. LOTS of reading. You can tell he really loves all things Russian. He's very willing to meet with you about tests. There are three tests and a final, so don't screw up. Will always tell a couple of funny stories every class to make sure people pay attention. If you have the chance, take him. He's a Furman institution. I'll miss him

This guy is a joke. He sits there and says he never studied in college, he spends most of the class telling stories that don't matter, he treats you like an idiot if you ask him to repeat something because he flies through the material, doesn't give clear answers to anything, especially about what his expectations are

Teacher is awesome. Only problem is that in the final 4 days of class, we had a 100 point test, a two 10 quizzes and a 10 point quiz followed by a 150 point final. Out of 500 course points, he tested us in 390 in last 10 days with 290 in the last 4!

'Ol Lav Dawg is the man. His class is straight up the easiest I have taken. Still thinks he is back in his CIA days thou. Good guy who wont fail you as long as you do what he asks. Good grades are easy to make.
