It seems too many of these reviews stem from feelings involving how Dr. Owen is as a person and not teaching ability. He is a very kind man, but his teaching skills are lacking. In his case, doing things "differently" just makes students angry. Expectations are unrealistic. You never know what he wants Textbook needed if you want to learn.

Tough marker, but definitely knew his stuff. He was very helpful when I sent e-mails and went to see him. Would recommend taking any of his classes, but be prepared to work hard to get a good grade.

In 315 Owen seemed to care and actually want to help students out with one of the more complex courses psychology students are required to take, however, in 316, he was outright rude to several students in email correspondance. His elitist attitude doesn't help matters either. It's too bad he's the only prof who teaches stats...

I really like Bill as a prof. He tends to have the 'alterior motives,' in that he wants you to learn how to write and critically think, not just learn the course material, so you really have to study. But you learn a lot in his classes. However, he really has a whispery voice, so it can be difficult to hear him in class sometimes.

One of the best profs at UNBC. VERY helpful and encouraging, really wants you to do well and reach your potential. He has high expecations though, so work hard. Love his seminotes, but I agree that his voice is so soothing it almost puts you to sleep! Much better with the new haircut. :P

I don't know what it is but Bill has gone from being approachable and helpful to unapproachable and outright rude. His outburts in class are just embarrassing. I hope this improves in the future.
