I could't understand what he teaches at all, sometimes I even could't understand what he is speaking, there's no points. The unclear and low voice is the most confused problem. The homewok and exams are always so tough I have never seen before. Now what I could do is just expecting much better grades.

He seems like he has known well, but he think that every student is like him. When i ask question he always answer and he is helpful but aweful in teaching. He dont know what should he teach in class. He goes through theory only not the code part. His assignments are terrible, he gives assignment of expert level. i've taken only one exam

Started out in CPSC 305, then took all the classes that he taught at the time (and that I need, including 306 and graduate courses). He's a tough guy, can't argue with that (but so is Dr Dumas). Both are knowledgeable in the courses they teach. Personally, I think students can expect higher grade in Dr Harris' than Dr Dumas'. Study group helps !!

Harris is the strongest professor in the UTC CS department. He knows his subject up and down (applies to all he chooses to teach). He moves quickly in class but will slow down and focus on anything not understood. You MUST speak up if you don't follow what's being taught. He is also extremely generous with his office hours, so use them.

Comment:
Why/How he is still teaching at UTC I don't know, but he will confuse you in the lecture, slides are no help. Even reading the book and coding will not help you because he expects you to be an expert at coding, and he assigns impossible labs that cannot be completed unless you cheat. Also, he doesn't do any program examples on the comp. Take DUMAS!

Comment:
Harris is the worst teacher i have experienced at UTC (and I've had some bad ones). He doesn't teach well during lecture, his slides are pointless, and his labs are over the top. Without previous copies of his tests, his classes are next to impossible, so get them if at all possible (he does allow this, so no one thinks I'm doing something illicit)

He knows alot, but he shouldn't be teaching. He expects you to understand everything he says the very instant after he gets done explaining everything, and he moves quickly, I don't think it's that people are timid, I believe it's people don't know what to ask b/c they have no idea what's going on, and he wonders why no one participates?

He has a tendency to skim over things he thinks you should already know. This is okay if you swallow any classroom timidity you may have, and ASK QUESTIONS CONSTANTLY. He will be glad to answer them to whatever extent you need. Print his slides before class and take notes on them, or you'll be horribly lost when it comes time for the test.

Comment:
His first time teaching 160, not his last, unfortunately. He doesn't explain things, and expects you to know things from 300/400 level courses you haven't taken. He can be helpful in lab, but his lectures are pretty much pointless. He gives sample code that he purposefully leaves unworkable to make you think. Avoid him (while you have a chance).

This class is tough. Dr. Harris knows his stuff. You can get lost quick. Ask Questions! Print Powerpoint slides before class(when available). Know your Truth Tables! Always willing to help students. Take advantage of his office hours to get more detail of subject matter. Tests are extremely long. This being said, I would take him again.

Harris is a unclear and overly technical. He makes things harder than they really should be, and also has a penchant for [poorly] presenting information that has no practical value. 306 in particular will make you hate your life. I haven't had Dumas, but I hear he's better.

Extremely willing to help students or go over problems. Does not really engage class, and often loses class when he starts going over very technical material.

I liked Professor Harris--a little hard class sometimes but still very enjoyable and certainly knows his stuff. He was very willing to go over any question asked in class.

Very poor instructor. He may know the material, but he is unable to present it effectively. Don't take a class with him. Go find Dumas.
