Sage is the most condescending teacher I have ever met. He is the epitome of a rude French man. He is an easy grader and will pass you because he doesn't care enough for you to actually have you learn. I am in a combined section class with grad students and he only caters to them where as the under grads struggle. I do not recommend for he is hard

If you are a beginner at french, I wouldn't take him. His handwriting is chicken scratch so you can't read whats on the board, making it very hard to take notes. Not a bad guy but sometimes rude and acts like he can't be wrong. Very easy grader on the tests!

Hes so rude and condescending to students who ask questions. He teaches at a very fast pace and it is NOT an introductory level course from his POV. Hes so arrogant toward students and hates being asked genuine questions about the material. He teaches quickly and does not explain much of anything.

He was very rude to me in class and other students who all tried. Very arrogant, do not reccomend. He moved was to quickly and if you asked a question he made you feel dumb and hardly even answered your question. Got a decent grade because there were a lot of opportunities to boost your grade other than tests. Overall easy grader.

Dr. Sage is a pretty cool prof, he cares about you actually learning the material and not just memorizing it for a test. He grades super easy and his tests aren't bad at all. Some concepts were confusing at times but it was never too hard. Good class for a french minor. Would take him again!

The only reason I did well in this class and got an easy A was because I had taken 5 years of french classes previously and had an amazing high school french teacher so I had already learned all of the material. Dr. Sage is very confusing and doesn't explain things well at all. He also makes asking questions embarrassing, but he grades tests easily

He's not condescending, he's French. And you disrespect him if you don't study! So yeah, do your work. I think he is best taken when you have already had some French in high school. Very helpful and the best of them there, for me anyway.

So good news is he's an easy grader. Bad news is that he makes this class a lot harder than it should be, and he expects you to pick up the language just by looking at it and guessing. He's very condescending, but the class is doable and you will pass with a decent grade if you put in the effort.

This guy is one of the most condescending people I have ever met. This level course is supposed to be for people who have never taken this language before and he makes you feel pretty stupid for not knowing how to speak it. The only upside is he is the easiest grader, even if you clearly made a mistake he takes off minimal points.

His class was really easy but his attitude is poor. If you've never taken french before or don't know it that well, he makes you feel dumb. He acts like he is too good to teach French level 1. Don't ask a lot of questions and don't make a lot of mistakes because he gets very irritated and mocks you. However, he grades easy.

Sage is an amazing teacher. He will give you extensions on anything if you just ask. He says that he doesn't take late work, but I've seen him give students extensions on final day. He really wants you to do well, so if you truly care, or at least act like you do, he'll love you. His accent isn't thick at all. He's my favorite professor so far.

Sage is legend. Fascinating, entertaining, and a very good teacher. Not a hard grader at all, but he makes it so interesting that it motivates you to work harder. Very knowledgeable on linguistics, culture, history. Prints own books. I do not know a single person who does not just love him. Key is to talk; he can't help as much if you don't speak

French lit - Provence. If you love French do not, repeat DO NOT MISS THIS CLASS. He is from Provence, knows so much more than just his field - history, lit, theater, music, poetry, politics, mythology - an amazing brilliant professor - take as many classes w/him as you can! Merveilleux!

Comment:

Dr. Sage is one of the "wisest" professors @WCU. He is generous, supportive and encouraging to students, and really wants you to succeed. Just completed a minor in French, and despite a near meltdown in FRE Poetry (very difficult) it was more than worth it to get through all six classes with A's! He's a true renaissance man!
