She is the best professor I have ever had. If I inspire my future students to love English I will be because of her. She is retiring this semester and she will be sorely missed. She does not suffer fools or idiots and you have to work hard but you will learn. Best Teacher Ever!

Dr. Cox is a tough professor, but she's worth it. She's funny, insightful, and infinitely knowledgeable. She expects dedication from her students, as there are many books to read throughout the semester and she will know if you're not reading since a 200 word response is due every class. If you're willing to work, her class is absolutely worth it.

If you want an easy A, or a class that isn't challenging, then RUN! While Prof. Cox is hard and "seemingly" unapproachable, she is passionate about literature, and expects quality work from upper division students. I took a class from her every semester. Don't think I've ever learned more from an instructor. She knows her stuff!

Prof. Cox made my life horrible. She called me names, berated me and publicly humiliated me. I tried asking her questions about assignments but was told I don't belong at college. She is not a teacher. She just likes to scare students into thinking how she thinks.

She was a dragon. I went every day and did all the work, but I hated every minute of it. She went off on students all the time, everyone was terrified of her, and loves to use her classroom as her soapbox. She just needs to retire.

She's one of the best English professors I've ever had! I learned so much from her class, and because of her I'm a much stronger writer. Her lectures are interesting and informative. The assignments were good because she let us write about whatever interested us and all of her comments were constructive and helpful. Absolutely fantastic professor.

The encounters i had with her prior to class where nothing like her lecture; she was hostile and self-righteous in the clasroom and demonstrated only random knowledge of the topic. If you agree with her, fine; otherwise, she focused on her soapbox and negative comments on co-workers. Stay away from her if you value your self-esteem and education.

Finally, the lazy English major meets his match! This class is not for the student who thinks he's mastered the art of BSing from skimming Wikipedia articles about literature he read in high school. Cox is indeed vocal about her opinions, but the class is discussion. If you disagree, speak up. She never lectures opinion. Best lit prof I've had.

She would have a lot to teach her students, and obviously knows her stuff, but every year I have her she gets worse. She takes using the classroom as a personal soapbox to the extreme. I went into the class to learn about ancient literature, but I got her beliefs about religion jammed down my throat so often that that's what I remember most.

At first, Professor Cox can seem intimidating, but if you come to class prepared and engage in discussion, she will fuel a fire in you. She is a hard grader, expects you to know the rules, and certainly read the text. After one class with Cox, I continued to take a class with her every semester. I don't think I have ever been so inspired.

Sure she's smart: she got her PhD from Standford, as she liked to remind us. Too bad that investment did not reap a good, or in this case, competent teacher. To call her that is an insult to others; "instructor" is more apt, esp when referring to someone who left for a smoke IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS or bragged about having smoked pot w some HP bigwig

An intimidating, back-biting dragon with extreme political views. She was a hard-grader with more of a sociopolitical objective than a desire to teach.

Entertaining, open, direct, clear, clever and intimidating as hell. I know I wouldn't have had a better experience in Medieval Lit. with another professor. She's a hard grader, but it's only 'cause she expects upper-division quality in an upper-division course. I worked harder in her class than my others, but I know my lowest is in Prof. Cox.

Pros: dynamic lecturer, never boring, great stories, encouraging of students who worked hard, knowledgeable, pretty fair and democratic Cons: could be loud and shrill, prone to chest thumping and self-praise, final exam was a nightmare which nearly killed me, sometimes spaced out during lectures and gave erroneous info on some of the details

A bitter old woman, resentful that the world doesn?t take her extremist opinions seriously. It?s appalling to see her sycophants here excuse her disgraceful behaviour. The job of a teacher is to educate, uplift, and inspire, not to brag about oneself and self-aggrandize by humiliating others. Awful person; horrible professor. Run, don?t walk away.

As said, she's intense. The last student to comment must have either gone to class unprepared or said something of sub-par intelligence. Cox does like to dig into people she feels shouldn't be in her class. If for some reason I wasn't prepared for class I would ditch- I didn't want to risk embarrassment. She taught me so much about the text.

Absolutely, utterly awful. Arrogant, condescending, rude, shrill, petty, and above all mean-spirited. Please, for the love of God, do not take a class with this woman. Anyone who enjoys humiliating people in a weaker position than herself has no business teaching - whatsoever!!! Fortunately I managed to fight back in class a bit.

Cox expects students to learn and work, and she is extremely helpful and always available for questions--even outside office hours. She's got a great sense of humor, lectures are interesting, and she truly enjoys teaching. Take a class with her--you'll learn a lot and enjoy yourself!
