Dr. Barrett has/had an amazing penchant for creating the best imaginable sound from every person in each one of his choirs, took 3 classes from him in my time at UNI and each time learned more then I did in any of my other classes, he absolutely hated me and I still loved being in the class because he made us work and sound amazing!

This guy is hilarious at times. At first, he seems quite intimidating but he's really a neat person to be around. I would advise being in this class if only once. My only advise is don't talk during class, don't look at the clock during the class, don't yawn, and don't back talk!

Dr. Barrett is loads of fun to be in a choir with. He is humorous. He does have his favorites but so what. Doesn't everybody??? He likes a good laugh and he is stuck in the South, but he is so fun. He can be crazy at times too. Be prepared to work hard on learning your music!

A terrible teacher!If you are an Ed Major then the things you learn about what "bad teaching"is during your classes is epitomized by him.A great example in this regard but otherwise another choral director who is too into himself and certifibly mental.Dont yawn in his choir because its "grounds for dismissal"but yet in other rehersals hes yawning.

If you are in any of Dr. Barret's choirs it will certainly be an interesting time. He is a bundle of drama sometimes, but it's entertaining more often than disruptive. However, there's no denying that he is damn good at what he does. His choirs are amazing, even those with mostly non-majors or freshmen are still some of the best I've ever heard.
