Every lecture he sits down and reads WORD FOR WORD from his textbook that he wrote. He expects us to regurgitate it back to him on lengthy homework assignments and long exams. Lots of memorization of really difficult reactions. I wish I took another elective. This class is beyond ridiculous.

He is very clear about what he expects of you. He tells you exactly what will be on the exams. But because of the nature of the material, you have to practice A LOT and devot a huge amount of time to it. If you don't have countless hours to spend memorizing, you won't get an A or possibly even a B.

Just go to class, do the homeworks and practice the mechanisms. Dr Mandal spoonfeeds the class quite a bit but he is genuinely interested in your doing well. He explains things thoroughly and tells you exactly what will be on the exams. Just go to class and do the homework.

To get an A, Complete and study the Special Homework Problems, study the mechanisms from your class notes, study reactions, and study the class notes. Everything on the test is 100% identical to the things listed above with the exception of varying types of branches/formations on mechanisms. Other than that, Mandal will do everything to help you.

He is interested in the students actually learning & UNDERSTANDING chemistry. He is by no means an easy A but he is a great teacher. Take full advantage of his office hours because he is thrilled when students show up with questions. Just make sure you study the material after every class so you do well on the quizzes.
