Comment:
For Anth 202, he only gives out a few grades, like literally like 5. BUT if you do well on those, which is not hard to do with his study guides and very clear tests, its an easy class. Just show up and watch his videos, and answer questions for the participation grades, and study for the exams and youll get an A

Dr Bates is super funny and tries to make class fun. This is a test heavy class and he only has tests so study and do well or fail. I am taking him again for archaeology next semester and I think he is a solid choice to fulfill the diversity general education credit. But a tip: dont use your phone in class or he will yell and fail you.

He is LAZY and not helpful. He has very low expectations for himself as a professor and his students. He thought an average of a 75 was good. The material in the course is not difficult but he makes it way more difficult. I personally hold myself to a higher standard than a C average and I would suspect that most would agree with me.

If you like to watch poor quality videos every other class, 2 oddly worded tests, a horrible prompted essay, and a final that has nothing to do with the class, then this is the class for you.

I struggled in this class, and I usually get all As. He put so little effort into his job and that is frustrating when you are putting so much effort to do well. Very upset that I paid so much for a course and got so little instruction that helped me on the graded assignments.

Dr. Bates is the laziest professor and it's sickening to think how much he gets paid to do nothing. He plays videos instead of teaching and only has four test grades. Each test has a different layout so you never know what to expect. Study a lot and you will be ok, but the final is extremely hard. He doesn't prepare you for final

First Id like to address his hotness rating, Brian Bates is old, overweight and looks like he cuts his own hair. But that doesnt matter, the real issue is that hes an awful professor. He gives confusing insturctions and lazily teaches. Youd think Anth 101 would be easy, but its not and you can thank this clown for his horrible instruction.

First: Dont buy the textbook because I am pretty sure we never needed to use it. Second, Brian Bates is a joke. He shows movies half of the classes and is overall pretty apathetic. Test are easy if you study, impossible if you dont. No homework so that a plus but its a exam only course so good luck if you fail one!

He tells you to read the textbook before class but that is not mandatory because he goes over everything in the class long lecture. Most if not all of the grades are the exams which tend to be difficult if you don't go over the material. Oh and no phones or computers allowed.

If you respect him and his time, don't interrupt and do your work, he will bend over backwards to help you. Inspirational and highly recommend sticking with him if you are a student of Anthropology.

Bates is an awesome teacher. I highly recommend taking his Anthropology class. However, the only grades he has are exams. No homework, no papers, nothing besides exams, so you have to make sure you study. BUT it is NOT difficult at all, don't let that scare you. Bates is a fantastic teacher and I highly recommend taking this class.

I have Bates for my 8AM class, and i don't mind coming to this class at all. He only has four grades, and they are tests, but they are each a different style to give everyone a fair chance. He is probably one of the best professors I have ever had. I highly recommend taking him for anthropology!!

Absolutely LOVE Dr. Bates, he knows what he's talking about and he makes learning the subject super easy and clear. I took him for two different classes one my Freshman year and one my Sophomore year and I didn't even mind having his class at 8am because he was so great! Plus he's really punny and everything he says cracks me up, take him!!

Professor Bates is a fabulous individual. I loved his class and would definitely take one of his classes again. Pay attention to the material and take good notes and you should be fine. Most of the tests are multiple choice but I remember one or two essay questions popping up. He loves what he does so he makes learning fun.

Took his field school this summer, and it was nothing like I'd expected. Dr. Bates was always happy to answer questions, address concerns, or just shoot the breeze about class-related stuff. He's realistic and has a sarcastic sense of humor, but the guy really looks out for you. Looking forward to his classes when he returns from sabbatical!

Dr. Bates is a great professor! He really loves Anthropology and wants the students to be involved as well. Your final grade is based off of four tests, but he tries to switch up the test type so everyone has a fair chance of passing. He encourages student participation during lectures and truly wants the students to succeed.

Took 101 with Bates first and he was the reason I made the final decision to switch to Anthro for my major. He is an amazing professor and more than happy to help if you ask for it. Class is always interesting and you can tell he loves what he's talking about.

Awesome man, awesome professor, and hot. Cares so much about his students and wants all of them to succeed. Easy grader, only 3 or 4 tests total but all different and some quizzes. Some reading is required but not much. Pay attention and you won't have to read much.
