This is by far the worst professor ive had at URI. First, you do you the text but he continually contradicts the text in class, creating extreme confusion. His teaching style is non-existing, he just tells stories of "his tax practice" and never actually explains the material, even when asked about it. You do learn, because you teach yourself!

He is an ineffective teacher to say the least. I did all the assignments, read every chapter and took notes, studied days before each exam, and received a C in the class. I have never received a C in my life and had a 3.8 gpa. Long story short, avoid this class at all costs if you care about fairness of your education and the quality of your grades

You need to completely teach yourself, attendance isn't graded or remotely necessary. 40% of class time is spent on personal anecdotes and his thoughts on republicans (they are bad). Using the grade determination in the syllabus, he did not scale at all, at least for me. Which is surprising given class quiz and exam avgs around 50-60.

As far as knowledge he does know what he speaks of but he doesn't help you if you have a problem. His answer is teach yourself. He doesn't explain the material well and leaves you to fend for yourself. His quizzes and exams are tough even if you do all the homework and do well on quizzes. If you want to maintain a good GPA he isn't the guy to take.

Everyone making these negative comments are just lazy. He is one of the best teachers I've had so far at URI. If you ask questions and get involved he's sooooo helpful!!! and he curves EVERYTHING! If you aren't lazy and do the homework on time and come to class with QUESTIONS READY, you'll be fine. Just stop hating teachers that don't baby you!!

Prof. Matoney, as seen in previous reviews, has been screwing over accounting students for years. In my class, he waited the until the last day to announce that the final has 3 chapters we didn't complete on it. He then proceeded to change the weight of each exam, after the last day of class (can he do that?) DO NOT TAKE MATONEY

Doesn't teach at all. You teach yourself from the book. Said the current textbook would be used for 301 and 302 but now they are changing the curriculum so be prepared to purchase another $200 book. Exams are hard and are nothing like the homework.

Not as bad as everyone says. Jokes are lame, tests are hard. Does not teach anything, just uses powerpoints for certain topics. You NEED to read the book, word for word, over and over. Prepares you to pass the CPA. He is condescending and not as funny as he thinks, but if you apply yourself you can learn a lot.

Had Prof Matoney about 30 yrs ago not surprised that he has lowest quality rating of all URI accounting professors. Once while I was taking a test he pulled my test paper right off my desk thought I had a cheat sheet. Never apologized a real jerk. Back in the day his goal as a prof was to catch someone cheating. Wonder if he ever did ?

The guy is funny i give him that, but i didnt sign up for stand up comedy. i had to teach myself accounting!!!! why was i paying him again? WileyPlus is his God, and his tests were super hard, and he called my grade out publicly- not professional. I did ok in the class, but he had nothing to do with my success, AVOID at all costs if you can!

Everything is online, doesn't really teach. He's an okay guy but really there are much better teachers to take at URI for accounting, try Jelinek or D'Adamo first, use him as a last schedule resort. Really, he's an okay guy, horrible teaching style, not very active in communicating concepts.

Matones is an awesome guy. He makes funny little jokes and always asks if his students love him and we all do. All homework, tests, and quizzes are online. Not too hard. He is very helpful and responds to questions very well. He is a great teacher and a great person.

This professor was absolutely horrendous. You had to teach yourself EVERYTHING in the class. However, the online homework and quizzes were easy to work with other people on the problems to pass. If it wasn't for that, I would be failing.

Nice guy, Hard class but you have 3 attempts to get the online homework right and the online quizzes can really boost your grade. The exams are hard, but they are not worth a large amount of the grade so if you do well on the quizzes and HW you will do fine.
