Lectures not the most interesting, but he tries to evoke interest with pictures at the beginning of lecture! He seems really interested in the topic and he has a lot of cool anecdotes on his diving/field experiences. Completely sticks to the textbook, which really helps come exam time.

This prof knows his stuff but I get the impression that he's not very enthusiastic about any of it except for the ecology section (and octopuses of course). I don't blame him though the course topic is dreadful; final much more difficult than the midterm but I still got a pretty good grade, so I assume that most people do awful on them too.

he isn't that boring if you follow his notes and copy down the notes he provided. they can keep you busy. i found the final difficult. very specific on genetics and the video qs was brutal. i watched it but didnt rem jack! lab exam seem intimidating, but it wasnt so bad. overall, nice prof.takes notes!!

Don't listen to the slackers who didn't like this class; this is because they weren't studying. Dr. Hartwick always has a smile on his face and you shouldn't judge him before getting to know him. I think he's really kind and passionate about biology (octopuses), unlike boring individuals who are not passionate about anything in life. final not diff

This prof, like everyone say is monotonic...very borning indeed. But his test and exam is pretty easy, if you are good at memorizing that is. His exa m is based upon all the notes he have.So memeorize all his terms there and you will be ok

WORST INTRODUCTORY BIOLOGY TEACHER EVER! He could put the keenest biologist off biology just by opening his mouth. Has no interest in the subject and no interest in teaching - doesn't even write his own notes (he gets them from the textbook website).

his notes are good, midterms + final were easy! u actually dont have to study from the text. just study from his notes and u'll do well on the exams! i think hartwick did an awesome job teaching! i love this guy even though he is boring. i mean most bio profs are boring right? yup!

This guy could put anyone to sleep- very low enthusiasm. Lots of people could not manage to sit through his lectures and either didn't come or left halfway through. He'll rush through lecture material he doesn't like personally. Always talks about octopi. The midterm was so-so for hardness. He sucks at explaining concepts and discouraged questions.

AWFUL TEACHER. Took him 2 years ago. Used another teacher's notes so he jumped around a lot. Did not connect the lecture with the textbook. Did not talk about relevent things. Boring lecturer. Midterm were WAY to fussy and nit-picky. Could not hold the classes attention. AVOID THIS TEACHER!!
