While not the most helpful lecturer, he's always available in office hours and is much more helpful there. he gave a quiz a week and a homework a week, which were reasonable assessments of the material. I liked this class

Not the best at explaining concepts and giving practice problems in lecture. Learn mostly through homework (which is time consuming but educational). Useful & convenient office hours made the difference between a B and an A. Regular quizzes are good measures of material & partial credit is generous.

I absolutely love Savilonis' way of teaching. He's all about being realistic. He starts out the class with a simplified 1st law, and adds more and more detail as the class progresses, an excellent way to learn thermo. Cheat sheets are allowed on the weekly quizzes, which helps. Be prepared to learn new concepts, because the concepts are essential!

Best professor at WPI hands-down. Cares for his students and the class was one of the easiest. Lectures aren't mandatory and project was simple. Take ME 4429 with Savilonis

Savilonis is one of the best ME professors. you remember stuff because all quizzes have some reference to previous lessons. You can almost not study for the final because you've been forced to revise everything over many times, and painlessly so. Always helpful as well. Take him if you have the chance.

After taking RJP's class, you will find you are lucky to be in his class. He goes over homework problems in the class, so it is helpful to attend his lecture. His board writing needs to be more organized. His class examples need to be clearer. Sometimes I don't know what he is asking on the example. Overall, his class is not overwhelming. Take it!

One of the better thermo profs on campus from what I've heard. He makes thermo very logical and you learn the basic essentials that you'll need to pass the class. HW is very good practice for exams, so do them. A little boring sometimes, but he makes the material and subject interesting and easy to understand as long as you pay attention.

Engy Thermo. Pretty good; he definitely knows his stuff, but he's very disorganized. You can tell he's been an engineer way too long... he estimates and takes assumptions often, without telling the class what he's done sometimes. Weekly exams, pretty fair/easy (open note). The hard part about homework is understanding what the page even says.

This professor is very knowledgeable, patient and smart. I personally enjoyed his class. I like his manners and humbleness unlike some of the snotty professors. He welcomes questions and bend backward to help his students.

Knowledgeable professor albeit quite unorganized. Grade largely based examinations. Reasonable expectations especially since exams are open book/notes. Highly recommend students to attend lectures although not mandatory.

Good guy, but bad teacher. He tried to introduce new idea, but b/c he is so unorganized students ended up not learning anything. Biggest problems I have is he jumps from topic to topic without warning, and give very confusing homework. Didn't learn anything from him, wish someone else is teaching biofluid. p.s. I loved fluid

He is rediculously unorganized and unprofessional in and out of class. It is impossible to learn from someone who is unsure of the subject matter himself. Avoid him at all costs, he is one of WPI's biggest wastes of tuition.

This guy is a good professor who really wants the students to understand. One drawback is that he may be a little unorganized on the board and with his notes and stuff. However, he communicates concepts and problem solving well.
