Prior to taking his class I HATED writing. After taking his class, I am a writing machine. I have been getting A's in all the writing classes I took after his. He is a graduate of Stanford and was in the services. He is strict and expects you to do your job. Take him if you want real writing skills. Great foundation he helped me build for writing..

Comment:

Took as online course. This is the first prof I have ever had that could tell a difference in my writing styles (my "regular" versus my "autopilot"). He is good if you want a challenge. Lots of writing and research (good prep for EWRT2), no tests, and very understanding as long as you keep up communication with him.

Comment:

He constantly has work for you whenenever you log in. But he is a fair grader. I thought I was going to fail but ended up with a C! I turned in a lot of late assignments, but he understands the life of a college student. Just make sure you communicate with him! Other than that, make sure you focus on MLA format. He gets really peeved if you don't.

The only positive thing I have to say about him is that he's understanding of the working class, and is flexible with due dates if you talk to him. Otherwise - doesn't teach you a thing. The online class is all about research, although research is what 1B focuses on. SO much work, with only vague direction and even weaker feedback.

I took this class on-line. LOTS OF WORK! He is a fair grader, but is not clear on his assignments or his feedback. Overall I learned a lot, but most of it was self taught learning. Gives you lots of options to turn in late work.

As already a graduate from a UC, I pretty much know the difference between a bad professor and a difficult one. Henderson is extremeley bad for a couple of reasons. First, he does not teach. Second, his directions are vague while expectations are narrow. Third, he's arrogant and not the least bit courteous. Lastly, he gives very little feedback.

Im usually very critical of teachers.Complaints about him should be taken lightly(Its de anza).If you dont try, you wont like ANY teacher.He is clear about what he wants.He is a fair grader.He gives a normal amount of work.Very helpfull.DO NOT grade him if you are:lazy,ignorant, stupid(by definition),or just dont like college.You ruin it!

His online 1A class is not east by any means. The homework is always due on the weekends. If you have to read Cannery Row, make sure you pay attention to where the characters may be from as there is an esay due about it towards the end of the class. Good Luck!

I think the bad ratings for Bruce are very unfair. He is a great instructor, but his class is NOT easy by any means. Do not expect an easy A. He is very particular and expects A LOT, but you WILL benefit from it. Yeah, the 15-page research essay SUCKED, but you feel soooo good once it's all done. Very generous with grading.

This guy is horrible. The class is distance learning. You post essays online, your fellow students critique them, then submit them for a grade. His comments for my essays were "this is nothing more than a blog posting". This was an essay that I spent a lot of time on and thought was a good paper. Then refers me to ESL info. I am not an ESL person.

There is NO instruction for essay writing, though that is the focus of the entire class. He posts a To Do List each week, and then the class (which is online) is essentially on its own until the next week. He scarcely replies to emails and is quick to berate students individually or collectively at his whim. I've learned nothing from him.

AWFUl do not take an online class with this teacher. He gave feedback twice to me over the whole course. We only were required to write a 15-20 page research paper which was nice, but he had very unclear directions. You have no clue what you grade is over the whole course. You are in the dark as to how well you are doing because of no feedback.

I took EWRT1A distance with Mr. Henderson. Over the first 10 weeks, we only received 2 pieces of feedback from him. His feedback on papers was limited to 2-3 sentences max! You have no idea what your grade is, or even if you are doing well, but you are required to type a new paper each week! I recommend you do not take this course from him.
