Comment:

He is very intelligent, but is getting old, so sometimes it is hard to hear him. The first half of the semester you do a lot of two page papers, the second half you don't do much. There is a midterm, a term paper and a final. It is hard to listen to him talk about his political beliefs, so many students may be offended by what he has to say.

Fifteen two page papers that if you do, you get full credit for.Term paper is like forty percent of your grade and take-home midterm and final.He doesn't take attendance, but knows if you show up or not.Lectures don't conincide with what you read in the books.Super old and super boring.Be ready to be on your computer the whole time.Not bad overall.

On the one hand, he's quite intelligent - the class uses his texts, and he is clearly very well read and able to discuss the Gospels in a very interesting and meaningful way. On the other, his lectures are rather dull. Has some extreme views (he's a revisionist) that he'll stand by, which detracted from the course.

Malina seems difficult at first, but the class is easy. The hardest part is the paper and even that is nothing to stress over. There is a final and midterm but both are take home. The class is super boring, but if you want to get an easy theology class take Malina.

It is very true that Dr. Malina is brilliant and a scholar. However, if you like a class with structure, then do not take his class. You do a lot reading at the beginning of the course (but not bad) and then his lecture does not coincide with what you read for homework. You are given no help or guidance on the term paper.

dr malina is awesome. you'll do good in his class if you do the readings/assignments (even skimming works). ask questions, yea sometimes he might be mean, but he's a good teacher overall. if you actually go to class and take notes you should do fine. he's blunt, not mean

Malina is brilliant. I had no interest in this subject and was not looking forward to this class, and it turned out to be my favorite of the semester. I can't believe how much I learned. The man comes across as unassuming, but he's a giant in his field. Take him if you get the chance.

One of my favorite teachers Ive had at Creighton. He is incredibly smart and accomplished but can be very boring at times which is my main complaint. Tests are take home and the only hard part of the class is the paper. Take him for sophomore theology.

2page summary of reading due each class must turn in but very easy he doesnt read them Term paper is difficult but doable in a group. 200t/f question midterm and final. Boring lectures, very liberal man, offends some. Very intelligent man but class is poorly structured & painfully boring. A is attainable. Class usually has a lot of athletes.

He is a very interesting and funny man, but a horrible professor. There is not much structure in this class ( we don't follow the syllabus, and lectures are usually prejudice tirades ) and his expectations are as clear as MUD! You will not know what your grade is until published online and there is no discussing it with this man.

Malina: a serious and unfortuately rare scholar that can teach about the ancient world in order to illumate scripture. I do not agree with everything he has to say, yes his personality can be abrasive -but he really is a good guy that can actually TEACH. He is irritated by students that show up unprepared. Just do the reading and pay attention.

Malina is great. he is totally brilliant and he doesnt put a lot of stock in grades (the tests are take home and he recommends meeting outside of class to complete them). the paper is hard but as long as you put forth some effort you can get a good grade. dont take him if you are a big baby who needs someone to tell you that you are smart.

Professor Malina may possiblly be the best professor I have ever had at Creighton. It is rare to have a professor who has such knowledge of the subject he is teaching in addition to the world. Although things are sometimse off topic, his comments are relevant to learning outside of the text book in a larger world setting. Highly suggested!

Until I met Prof. Malina I used to doubt that there were true supporters of terrorism at Creighton. But there he is, in all his repulsive glory. What else can I say about him? Oh yes, he teaches primarily by public humiliation. So if attacking America, vilifying Jews, and watching your classmates be humiliated, malina's your guy!

he's a big jerk to the whole class and makes everyone feel stupid. i was on his good side and it pissed me off. his tests are hard, but take home so get them from someone ahead of time
