Comment:

He cares about his student's work and encourages them to take risks and be creative. Class was challenging and I had to learn a lot of things outside of lecture, but grading is fair. No exams, but there are 2 group game projects so make sure to find reliable teammates. Took this as an elective and will be taking Game Design II because of him.

Assignments all group projects; the first a two/three person, the rest will be a 3/4 person group that will serve as your group the rest of the semester. Lots of technical writing; lots of examples given. Dynamic, interactive class. Read the book. Very willing to help, and brilliant. Love him.

LECTURES ARE PRETTY MUCH A BUNCH OF "WHAT DO YOU THINK" TYPE OF QUESTIONS. NICE GUY BUT YOU SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO THE SYLLABUS AND START READING WHAT IT SAYS THE TEST GOING TO COVER . AND MAINLY BE READY FOR THOSE STUDENTS THAT DON'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING IN A GROUP PROJECT BECAUSE YOU WILL BE DOING MOST OF THE WORK IF YOU WANT TO PASS THE CLASS!!

Dr. Maxim is one of my favorites. He is a great teacher and cares a lot. He is always in his office and always welcomes students in. He responds to all emails quickly and treats everyone well and is very well respected.

Dr. Maxim is a great professor. He is very clear in his expectations and is always willing to help. He is always heavily involved in various activities on campus. He is one of the few professors that genuinely cares about the futures of his students. Definitely one of the best professors at University of Michigan - Dearborn

Very good professor. Cares about his students and the subject manner. Lectures are a little dry, but he is knowledgeable on the subject. 4 projects, all of which are about average difficulty but can be time consuming. Exams are average as well. Have had him for multiple courses and all have been positive experiences.

Great class with a great professor! Dr. Maxim is very willing to help students and presents very clear, thorough lectures. 4 projects and and two tests. The only downside to the class is how quickly it moves since it's only May-June. The documentation and programming assignments are very reasonable and follow from the lectures. Well worth taking!

Dr. Maxim was the best professor I have had on campus. I really appreciated him as a teacher because he was always there to help. If he is expected to come in every day to teach, he expects you to attend every class. He tries to make it interesting so you won't fall asleep and tries really hard to answer any questions you may have.

Comment:

Professor Maxim is one of the best at UofM Dearborn. The courses he teaches require a lot of documentation, but CS is not just programming, but learning how to document. He is very flexible with deadlines, replies emails right away, and he is not a hard grader. Overall, he is good professor. He does other activities on campus as well.

The class material was boring reguardless, but he kind of just stood up front and mumbled most of the time, and only read from his slides, never elaborated on anything. The tests were OK, but you have to study pretty hard for them in my opinion. Just pay attention to what he seems interested in when he's talking, that'll be what's on the test.

Very bad professor. Worst i've had at UMD. He's a slide reader in the worst way possible. And a mumbler. Projects: Very ambiguous with no help from the textbook or internet. Maxim will periodically mumble some requirement he forgot to add to the assignment which you WILL miss. I'd rather have a foreigner with a tongue piercing than this guy again

OK Here is the deal on the documentation: SOFTWARE ENGINEERING IS ALL ABOUT DOCUMENTATION! Alot of the other respondants just don't seem to get this. Maxim is an excellent teacher who is always willing to help out. These courses require lots of documentation its the subject not the teacher.

Great teacher. Only teacher who is out for what he knows is right for the students. Really enjoys his subjects. Likes a lot of documentation. Just follow his assignment sheets and put effort into it and he will grade you well. Will always focus on Pressman books.

Artificial Intelligence was an excellent class. He taught it very well. He does sort of just read off the slides, but actually explains them in a decent mannter. Very helpful via e-mail or outside of class as well.

In a constant state of agitation. You waste hours of your life away on meaningless documentation. Tests are so easy you can make up answers and get full credit. Ease of class almost makes it worth putting up with him.
