Comment:
If Anthro is not your major do not even think about taking this class, its hard and boring. Rowe is a nice guy but he talks very low and slow and goes off topic excessively. There are 3 pretty easy reports and 3 exams. The topics are difficult especially if you have no interest in them what so ever.

One of the best teachers I have ever had in college. He is always ready and prepared. Very personable and makes class easier the way he teaches. I Would take him a third time.

Since this is intro to ling. the book is very dense. You will have to learn the phonetic alphabet and will be tested on it. The book is used heavily and has many exercises. Prof. talks very slow and low, hard to hear or follow along sometimes. He is forgetful and gets sidetracked. Read the book and don't miss a class if you want A or B. I

I absolutely loved him. Easy class as long as you do the work, and his tests questions come straight from the online practice tests. He is funny, and the subject was really interesting. I loved his class and the way he taught. Make sure to take notes and you should do fine.

He is funny and kind. Take his class when you don't have a lot of classes going on. Since you'll need to read from the book mostly cause he gets off topic. But the tests are based on the book for sure.

He's a brilliant man with many personal stories to share. I don't remember reading from the text much but you will need it to study for tests, he tells you what to study as well. I did no reading and passed with a B.

This guy is smart, that much is for sure. The problem is, he isn't the best TEACHER. He goes on a lot of tangents about things unrelated to the subject matter. He talks about his son a lot. At least he has a sense of humor and his stories are usually funny. I just wish I felt like I was getting a better education from him as opposed to the book.

On point, meaning he knows his stuff. He knows so much about everything, not just anthro, too. Got a B in the physical anthro honors class and an A in the regular social anthro class. Take him if your a real student. Don't if your just testing the academic waters.

He's really nice and funny. His class can be boring, but he knows what he's talking about and seems really into what he teaches. Tests are pretty much based off the book (which he wrote). Tends to discuss things in class that aren't on tests so you have to do the reading yourself

Professor Rowe is a pretty cool and hilarious old guy. I must say though, almost all of the learning for the tests is from the book. He'll tell you that you need to do the reading yourself, as he tends to go off topic and tell great stories. It's a fairly easy class. 3 papers and 3 exams. You WILL need to read the book if you want an A.

His linguistics course is probably the dullest class I have ever taken. Professor Rowe himself is not a bad teacher per se, so much as he makes the material even more boring than it already is and covers very little of it in class. The textbook used is garbage and lacks readability. Only take this class if your intent is to become a linguist.

Do Not Major In Anthropology. I took his survey of Anthro. Got hooked into majoring in Anthro. Never once was I taught about post-modern theory the entire time, and how it has decimated upper level social sciences at University. There is NO working theory. Nor will there be. They can't agree on definition of "what is culture" anymore. WastedMyLife

Prof. Rowes linguistics class turned out to be quite enjoyable. He does go off topic frequently, but most of what you need to know is in the text book. Highly recommend that you read all of the book and take good notes. He will pull some tricky questions from it. Study hard and it's an easy A.
