Ask for help. He is helpful. Record your 1 on 1 sessions with him because he gives you the answers (or at least guides you in the right direction) but I feel like he purposely goes too fast to not let you take notes while the both of you talk. Also, he says some commical things during class so record just to show your friends.

5 "exams"- 1 quiz, 4 papers. His lectures are pretty confusing because he goes through so much. He repeats himself often but that's the stuff you NEED to mention in your papers (thats why he repeats it) He's a genuinely nice guy and is willing to help if you fail an exam. But you HAVE TO go to class and take notes. Those notes will come in handy.

This teacher is the absolute worst! I would say don't go to lectures but then he'll try to say you didn't ever come and thats why you received such a horrible grade. When writing his essays make sure you depend heavily on the text and try not to use any opinion or he'll say it's wrong. Lectures are a joke because they have nothing to do with test.

Alright, listen good. This will be the worst class you ever take. You will learn nothing. His grading makes LITERALLY no sense, it is seriously random. Lectures are 100% pointless, gets stuck on certain things and ends up talking about them for like 3 weeks. I had a 4.0 until this class. AVIOD! He's a cool guy but cant teach or grade whatsoever.

Worst professor I have had at UofL. It is impossible to listen to him during lectures since he changes subject every couple of sentences. He grades like he is a 300 level English professor. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS

Firstly, Tyler's grading is absurd. The man is not only inaccurate in some of the historical information he lectures on, but he was also off on dates about two events by literally centuries. His daily lectures are nearly identical in content. Tyler is by far the Worst professor I have had at the University of Louisville.

AVOID! Notes were vague, and not put on blackboard! He never used blackboard and the notes were the only thing you could use as a reference for essays which are the only grades for the class. He grades really hard and expects you to write essays a certain way.

Dr. Tyler is a nice enough man, but his grading scale does not make sense. Papers are encouraged to have a strong bias, and the language and arguments are not meant to be well developed. Basically, your papers have to be "dumbed down" to receive a passing grade. He's a genuinely nice guy, though. Dislike his teaching method.

Not necessarily a hard class. He grades really weirdly. If you take his class, take it as early undergrad. Otherwise, you'll be too research oriented to write his various small "essays". The key is repeatedly just talking about racism, since that's what he's on about. The class average was ~C, so this can make or break your GPA.

Very inconsistent is grading and isnt willing to help clarify in why you received a certain grade. Lectures did not follow along with essay assignments. You can tell he doesnt write his own syllabus.Very old school in knowledge and technology (still uses an overhead projector with outlines that make no sense).I was very frustrated during this class

Dr Tyler is a good professor For those saying his essays are graded unfairly, no they aren't I suggest making an outline Papers are 3-3.5 ps double spaced So really its 1 page READ you'll pass with an A. Any issues go talk to him, he cant read minds & your sour puss face cause you got a C will not make him sympathize Funny too! Respect the Mustache

Take Prof. Tyler for HIST 212!! He's an EXPERT! He's an author of several history books and he makes class very interesting and very easy. There's not much work, just one quiz, and 7 papers that count as exams. The papers only have to be 3 and a 1/2 pages long and you have about 2 weeks to write each. Also, he has the world's greatest mustache.

He made me turn in my papers 3 times because he kept forgetting to record the grade ! He also wrote all over my paper and I couldn't even depict what he was trying to say. He grades VERY inconsistently. AND at the end of the course, I ended up with an F because once again, FORGOT TO RECORD MY GRADES!! He finally fixed it.

Dr. Tyler was a very knowledgeable professor but did not know how to clearly communicate his expectations on the take home paper exams. His grading was completely off the wall where I got a C on the first exam and and A on the next! I attended EVERY lecture and took extensive notes and plan on teaching history.I would avoid him if at all possible!

He was so unorganized that the lectures I did attend made no sense, and made me not want to attend anymore. His essays covered material that he never went into details on. His lecture notes seemed as though he had taken notes from a book and then just read them off to his class.

Bruce Tyler is a horrible professor. His command of the subject matter was second rate at best. He is commonly known as a joke among better students. His grading is arbitrary and capricious. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!

I found Dr. Tyler personally a likable individual, but his disorganized lectures were painfully awkward and useless. The fact that he is so nice makes it difficult for me to rate him so poorly, but the class was a total waste of time.Found grading totally random! No comments, just a grade A,then C. I hate thinking that I wasted $1000 on this class!
