I took drawing I with a different professor and coasted a bit, but Bryan definitely knocked that habit out of me. He cares about his students improving and wants to see you succeed. His subtle Canadian accent is a gift that keeps on giving. But be ready to buy a lot of art supplies and be in the studio on weekends. Also start that sketchbook early.

Bryan is one of the most influential and supportive mentors I've ever had. He genuinely cares about your growth as an artist. If you put in effort, he will nurture your mind and challenge you, to be the best you can be. But, be lazy, and you will remain a mediocre artist. He puts in as much effort into you as you do; your choice. My advice: TRY.

Taking his class sparked a new interest in my work. Give excellent feedback, always open to communicate, and ALWAYS finds something in each composition to appreciate. Work hard, stay motivated, and be respectful in the classroom to get the most out of his class. It is a lot of work, but with the interest of the student in mind.

First art class I actually learned and improved. He is extremely helpful, and his assignments allow you to be creative. Assignments aren't due the day of critique so you can go back and work on them more. Best teacher I have had a UW-Stout so far.

This is definitely a harder course because of the many assignments he gives. Also expect a lot of out of class work. He does tend to pick favorites early in the semester but if you work hard for a grade you won't fail. Attendance is mandatory. Also do not put off the sketchbook assignment

You need to show up for class miss three and you fail. Is a very hard grader and intimidating. Be ready to work outside of class a lot and to buy a lot of materials.

I had him for both Drawing II and Printmaking. I didn't enjoy his drawing II class as much, but I advise taking his Printmaking class over Winterm. It's more laid back and I had a lot more fun. He's a nice guy, but he makes you work for a good grade.

He picks favorites. Definitely. If you don't start out on his good side, he holds it against you. He has an attitude that really shouldn't be in the classroom. Overdoes the project explanations. If you're not that creative, it shows in your grade. I don't recommend him for a class. Vocabulary doesn't expand beyond the words "moment" and "again".

I took Bryan for Drawing 2. He is a really cool teacher, and artist. He parctices what he preaches. He is very knowledgeable in drawing and will do all he can to help you, if you ask for advice, he will help. Interesting and fun projects that help your drawing skills, all in all awesome teacher!

Bryan is an awesome teacher. He's helpful and nice. I enjoy his subtle Canadian accent ("dem" for "them"). Some people come in with great skills and some have never drawn in their lives, but he has the ability to instruct everyone without neglecting anyone. Just don't leave your sketchbook assignment until the last minute and you'll be great.

Took drawing and printmaking with Bryan Ritchie, wonderful professor, very helpful with interesting assignments and a fun personality. Learned how to critique other peoples work really well through his classes. Crits could be harsher. I definitely recommend Ritchie if you love to draw or make prints.

Sketchbook wasn't as extreme as what people say. He gives you the assignment in way advance. Grading was what you deserved. Won't hand out As to "decent" drawings. The time you spend on your drawings will show. Nice variety of subjects. Super cool guy and easy to talk to out of the class even after you take his class. One awesome Canadian.

He is very helpful and informative. I hate drawing and so I don't do very well with the required sketchbook. All in all this class is not my most hated class, but not my most loved class. If I get a chance to take a different class with Ritchie, though, I will.

I've taken my fair share of art classes, and I'm quickly realizing that Ritchie is one of the most competent teachers I've had wrapped up in a pretty good-looking and nice guy! I approve so far. (We'll see what I say at the end of the semester though.... :)

Sort of vague- but at least you gave drawing lessons. I don't know how much I liked him drawing all over my final drawings though. He didn't make us do still lifes over and over again but let us get some variety in subject matter. I enjoyed doing the sketchbooks.
