Great guy, will help you along every step of the way. PowerPoints are incredibly boring and his lectures will leave you exhausted. Take some time to write the papers and you'll do fine.

Masilela was a good prof who cared about his students, his lectures rarely came full circle and were a little confusing. His test wording can be a little difficult, as long as you show up to class and put in the effort, an A is possible.

Hated this class more than anything. It was so boring I never could pay attention. He told us we needed the book and we never touched it. Easy A but I couldn't understand a word that he said. Thinks he's funny and he is not. Gives bonus for attending class.

Honestly, one of my favorite professors. No textbook needed. The book that he recommends that you buy, you don't need. Sure, buy if you'd like. Easy A, put forth effort. If effort is not enough he offers a ton of extra credit (listen to Regional Planning speakers). Cool class. You learn various things, makes you consider being a regional planner.

This class was not easy at times. If you don't prepare weeks in advance, you will probably fail the tests. Having got to know him a little bit, he is a extremely nice guy. His African course is pretty interesting. Every day is new notes and new topics. Start reading the "Dead Aid" book weeks before the report is due. It will save you a lot of time.

He is very passionate about the geography of Africa. He can be a little hard to understand at times but all in all, it was a decent class. I wish he would have focused more on the physical geography of Africa. It is not the easiest geography class out there, but if you want to learn about Africa then go for it.

I only took geo of africa because I needed 3 credits to be full time, but i'm glad I ended up taking his class. he referred to the salt-n-pepa song, "Lets Talk About Sex" as a powerful song. That moment alone made the whole semester worth the effort. the class wasnt difficult anyways, just watch out for the low point total in class..285 points >_>

Dr. Masilela is really cool if you show an interest in his class. He has a crazy accent and wears a safari hat. He also gives you a study guide and offers help if you don't understand something. I hardly did anything and cruised to a B in his class. He's not the worst option for geography. He's actually pretty funny and entertaining.

Dr.M is cool,you don't have to go to class but he gives you all you need for exams in his lectures. He also gives study guides and is soooo willing to help every/anyone in his class. I would take him for any Geo class. He's funny too. No text book all powerpoint. cool class cool prof.

Not the best professor. Requires you to memorize too much inforamtion. Test are not easy either. You have to get used to his accent, and then you will understand him. Rather boring. Would only take him as a last resort.

prof english is lacking, makes the class way harder than it needs to be. average study guide for tests is 3-pages w/many topics not covered in class. He also interjects his political views too often. He doesn't realize that no one gives a**** about africa, that we are just takeing the clss to check the box.

This class is so hard to sit through, especially if it is on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I couldn't bring myself to go most of the time because the content is so dry. He is a really nice and understanding guy though. I completely missed a test once, and he let me make it up a few weeks later with no penalty. Got a C. If interested it'd be better.

He is a very good teacher and very in depth about what he studies. Sometimes it is a little bit hard to understand his accent, but you get over that after the first few weeks. He gives you notes in Power Point form. The paper he makes you write is a killer though. The book makes no sense at all. If you don't want stress, then don't take it!

I love Dr. Masilela.He is so funny and fun to joke around with.He is very understanding of his students and will help you anytime.It was a nice change to not have another American professor and instead learn from a man who has experienced it all.Tests follow the study guides that he provides for you.Got a B and b4 this class knew nothing bout geog.

This class is very easy, and interesting. I learned so much about Africa. I didn't think his accent made him hard to understand, and the test do reflect what we take notes on, and is on the study guides. He's very nice, and is always willing to help if you need it. He's a great guy.
