Comment:

I love Carlen! She is so quirky and fun. If you attend class every week, you will not need the textbook. There are weekly movie quizzes, but they are easy if you actually watch the film. Her class really opened my eyes to why film is important. She gives great lectures, and knows a lot about film. She is unorganized, but it does not get in the way.

Carlen is a wonderful professor! I loved her Art of Film class! There's plenty of work to do, which does not feel like busywork at all. She's funny, and very clear in her lectures. The movies we watch are great, and help broaden our horizons!

Part of college is being challenged and doing work. Carlen never lets you rest on your laurels, and that's a good thing. She's hands down one of the best teachers I've ever had the privilege of taking a class from. I learned a lot and had a great time along the way. Her acerbic wit helps keep things spicy.

Took this as an online class. Worst online experience ever. Her syllabus did not come until 2 months into the semester. There was no feedback posted on moodle. Only communication was through email and it took her forever to reply if she ever did.

I loved having Professor Donovan as my 1102 teacher. She was very clear on what she expected out of her students and was always willing to assist students whenever they needed help. She's very outgoing and far from boring. I definitely recommend her!

Comment:

Carlen was wonderful to learn from. She clearly has a passion for English and it shows. Although there are many essays, they are of decent length and Carlen gives plenty of time between each one. I wish we could have picked more of our own papers but I know we are assigned topics for a reason. Over all good class.

Carlen assigns a lot of homework that will take you a minimum of 3 hours to do. She doesn't put in grades or tell you what you got on the majority of your assignments so you never know how you're actually doing in the class. She is obviously passionate about the subject and knows what she is talking about though. Not an easy class.

You can tell that she truly enjoys what she does. She gives you pretty clear guidelines as to what she wants out of your paper, which is always helpful. I wouldn't recommend skipping class just because you could miss important information about a paper or miss group work which is important to your grade. Overall, I would taker her class again.

Carlen is an awesome teacher! She is very stern on her grading. She wants it a specific way and that's the way its expected to be. Formatting has to be perfect in order to get a good grade. Show up to class! The papers are a little difficult and take some time so do not do the paper the night before. Your grade will prove it. Highly recommended!!!

She is a great teacher, The only thing I didn't like was how long it took her to grade papers. But she is easy to work with, and very understanding. She is known to cancel class once in awhile. I would totally recommend her, because she wants you to succeed and will help you.

LOVED Carlen. Though she does grade essays a little harder than what I was used to, I thoroughly enjoyed all of her lectures. She's extremely intelligent, passionate and entertaining. Minimal assignments, doesn't ask for too much. Just do exactly what she asks for on the essays and you will be set.

Comment:

She is a fascinating individual. She is open-minded and her teaching reflects such. Her classes are not designed to be hard, but to make you think about what is taught. As long as your are willing to do that it's an easy A. One of the few classes I went to class purely based on enjoying her "lectures" rather than necessity (except 4 quizzes).
