Comment:

This class has a major service learning project aspect- a group project done outside of class. This is business spanish, and the only thing related to this was the hw from the textbook which is online. Not very friendly, harsh during presentations. Is available during office hours but not very helpful. Do not be late for this class.

I have had to take him several times as I am a Spanish major but he is one of the worst professors I have ever had. If he doesn't like you, get ready for a long class. He grades unfairly and is rude if he doesn't like you. Textbooks are $150 and we barely used them for any class I had with him.

If you don't participate you won't get anything higher than a C, and if you miss 4 classes you automatically fail. Textbook is more useful than he is, he tends to spend way too much time talking about Corpus than actually teaching us. If I could avoid his class I would like the plague.

Professor Benavides was not a good professor. He was very inconsiderate of students time by wasting class time talking about irrelevant topics, and giving busy work that doesn't account for any type of learning to spark. Doesn't take student thoughts and opinions into consideration and is rude but always believes he is right. Good Luck with him.

He needs to take it down a notch. I was always nervous sitting in his class because I never knew where it was going. I agree that I felt like I was in the 1st grade writing on the board constantly. It was definitely demeaning. Finally have some structure and stop relying on textbooks to teach, that's your job. Don't just show up for a paycheck.

Benavides expects you to put in a lot of effort. Homework assignments were difficult, but there were weeks between them. He gave a ton of extra points for always coming to class, which boosted my grade a LOT. Learned a lot in this class and would recommend it to someone looking to seriously improve their Spanish.

One of the best PROFESSOR at UMD. He Is So Nice and make jokes in class. he knows and love what he's doing..I love him because he actually make us speak spanish in class. My spanish is way much better all thanks to him. if you fail his class is because of the attendance and lack of doing your work.. the best, love him

He's nice but refuses to teach. Entire class is self taught or taught by your peers. He will prob give each a chapter to teach the class, had him when I was at UMass several times, always got A's because I did all My work, but i can honestly say he does not teach. And theres a lot of busy work. Everything is about your "opinion" never facts. But as contradicting as it sounds he's a nice guy.

This was a great class....Benavides is extremely nice and helpful. I took his class during the summer and it was really fun. I was nervous about taking his class but he made learning spanish appear less threatening!

He is the only professor that teaches most of the upper level spanish classes. His class structure is the same every semester and he gives you stupid busy work at the end of the semester.I have had him more than 5 times, he is a good man but his teaching styles needs to change. He also makes you do group work and talk alot.

Benavides has a great sense of humor and is a generally very nice person. However, his teaching style is disorganized and appears to be a bit improvised at times. He gets distracted very easily. The class is not difficult at all. In fact, he uses the same exact schedule for all of his classes.

Treats us college students like first grader, will write everything on the board before starting, goes on and on about everything and never actually gets to what we're suppose to be doing. At the end, he'll rush through presentations and make you cut half of what you had prepared. Gives good grades to those who writes a lot of BS so enjoy!

After having Biron for 301, this guy is a breath of fresh air. I would recommend him to anyone. I would def take time again to-he's so nice and really loves what he does. He does care about attendance but hey it's a conversation class, if you don't go you don't improve. :-) A+

Incredibly easy course, to the point of elementary level. Write a couple papers, take a couple quizzes, and show up to class. Could have gone to a dozen classes for the same grade, but attendance is mandatory (unfortunately). If you want an easy grade take this course, fair warning.. it's boring!

By far the worst professor I have had at UMASS. Flat out does not care if his students are having trouble in his class. Blames the students and not himself for his tragic inability to teach. Do not take his class. He is a nice guy, very friendly, but if you care about your GPA, avoid him at all costs.

The worst teacher I have come across. He pushes students away, and gives tests on material other than that which he asks you to study. Three people including myself had to drop the class. I would avoid him at all costs

this guy doesn't know how to teach. i have no idea whats going on in class and im nearly fluent in spanish. he doesn't know how to facilitate his classes which makes class time very awkward. no homework at all, but he keeps a strict attendance policy. try to avoid his class.
