Dr. Lopez gets a bad rap because his class is focused on oral speech rather than written, and that makes it very difficult. But as is expected, learning a foreign language is difficult and takes a lot of work that a lot of his students did not want to put in. If you do not want to work, then do not take the class. He will teach you if you work.

Dr. Lopez is the best Spanish professor I had. This class was focused more on culture than the language which I really thought was great. Dr. Lopez is very intelligent and knows this subject very well. He helps in every way he can but he also expects you to try and to produce college level work. I would take him again and highly recommend him.

Very nice professor who gives students every opportunity to succeed. The main point of this class is to explore cultural aspects of Spain and Latin America rather than learn a ton of Spanish and grammar. He is a fair grader and only tests us on what we have covered in his class instead of what we should have, but didn't learn in previous classes.

Cool class, really easy professor. My only complaint is that he did not speak in Spanish the majority of the time.

Very interesting class. I expected this to be an all Spanish course being the fourth class in but he is very leanient. Tests are set up and you are allowed to answer in English with Spanish answers given as extra credit. Very interesting course to take.. Would like to take another from hime again.

Dr. Lopez not only excells in having students learn about the continual plight of natives but also the relationship between culture, history, economy, and politics. He does not like flashcards so avoid them if you can. He is exciting and very passionate! This makes going to class easy. Be ready for a challenge. In the 204 it is intense material

The first day I came into his class. I was thrilled about learning about spanish cultures. I also thought it would be a piece of cake. When I listen to his lectures I take notes but then when I take his exams, for some reason I always get C's. I did not learn anything from his class at all. it was very boring! I plan to take the course over.

He is a Spanish professor, Marshall University had him teaching my FYS class, made it extremely hard for no reason. No other FYS class had to do any work, and he had us doing a HUGE project, more work than my required classes. I dropped after a month. Nice guy, probably a good professor for the class he is suppose to teach, not FYS.

Dr. Lopez is a wonderful and passionate professor. I loved 204 because its more culture than grammar. I learned alot about Latin America, Spain, and the stereotypes about the areas. Vocab quizzes, tests, and oral presentation. Great class!

Really nice guy. Passionate about what he does. He's all about breaking down stereotypes about Latin America that persist in the minds of so many North Americans. Class is basically a history course as Lopez outlines historical topics more than grammar/composition stuff. Rarely opened the book. 3 tests, 1 presentation, random vocab quizzes.

Dr. Lopez is awesome! he really cares about student success. his tests are challenging but not too hard. if you just hang in there, even if you think you're failing, you will pass. also, he will put you on the spot a little, but, you know, it IS a foreign language class. if you don't know something, just say "no se." and he will skip you. NICE MAN!

He can be a little hard to understand at first. He can be a little rude at times, but I really don't think he means it to be. If you study, the tests are easy. It hardest part is listening comprehension because he reads the sentences. Quizzes help grade a lot. Will overexplain anything until you understand the material.
