Professor Lutze is a great professor here at IWU (unlike his wife). He loves his students as long as they work hard. He is my advisor and helped me get through a few sticky situations dealing with my credits and the registrar, when he didn't have to. I would 10/10 take him again. Don't look for an easy A though, you gotta work for it.

absolutely way too much work for a 100 level class. lets out at least 5 minutes late EVERY DAY. truly nice guy that really cares but has spent 10 years studying chinese history and expects us to be on the same level as him, which is impossible. very tough grader and scheduled three EXTRA class periods outside our regular meeting time. frustrating.

I had Prof. Lutze for my Gateway class and I wasn't very interested in the topic of my class but Prof. Lutze made it fun. There was a lot of outside reading that you had to do. I met with him outside of class a few times and he really seemed to care about my well being. He also took our class to lunch. He genuinely cares about his students.

There is not a lot of homework in a class with Dr. Lutze. But there are a lot of readings that are assigned. There are only a few tests that are take home and the prompts are very specific. Lutze is a hard grader due to this fact and to get a good grade on the test, a student must know the material and cite the readings.

One of the most inspirational men I've ever met. Extremely smart and knows the material very well. Must read the material and is not the most easy of classes. Very nice guy, but will make you work. One of the best teachers IWU, but not easy.

Lutze is very disorganized when it comes to the syllabus because he constantly has to rearrange dates. However, that is completely acceptable when looking at how passionate he is about what he is teaching. He REALLY knows his stuff and can sometimes go off on tangents, but he is so nice. I just wish I was interested in the material.

Professor Lutze is one of the best professors at IWU. His passion for history makes class that much more enjoyable. You will need to earn your grade, but it's well worth it. There is a lot of reading homework. But it's not too bad. You get used to it. He's a very like-able guy with a sense of humor. And while lectures are long, still enjoyable

Lutze is a fantastic professor and his dynamic lectures made me look forward to coming to class each day. The workload is manageable and the readings he selects are very interesting. I learned more from this class than most others I've taken at IWU.

He was a good guy. Enthusiastic and highly knowledgeable. The readings were not really necessary, just go to class and take good notes on the lectures and you'll be fine. Also participate a lot in class and you'll be fine.

I also took his Modern Japan course. His lectures are awesome. I highly suggest taking any of his courses, especially the lower level ones (where he lectures) The higher level one that I took, he didn't lecture :( but meh. He's very interesting.

Prof. Lutze is an awesome teacher. Although he assigns a lot of reading, his enthusiasm in class and lectures actually made Chinese history really interesting. Don't do all the reading: all pertinent information is in his lectures. Also don't worry about remembering all the information: his finals are take-home essays.

I like Dr. Lutze a lot. Even though he is a pretty tough grader, he makes things really clear in class and he is really funny too. We read a lot and wrote four essays. It's a good gateway class and i think i learned a lot from it. I'm glad that i was in this gateway
