The class is great, but if you think you have a somod background about Mexicos history, you dont. Interesting class, tough grader, resd before class. 3 essays midterm and final not too hard to do. Gives feedbacl, for questions go to his office.

Don't believe any of the negative feedback you hear about Dr. Carlos Perez. He is a great professor and honestly one of the most charismatic and passionate teachers I have ever had. His lectures are based on this big stack of old flashcards he brings in a Target shopping bag. But his lectures are incredible and he is really hilarious and respected.

Although this was my first semester here at Fresno, I know a bad teacher when I see one. This was a tough class! He showed up late everyday. Seemed to be angry about 98% of the time. Took about almost a month to actually start class. He is a very tough grader and does not respond to emails. Only took his class because I registered late. Stay away!!

Terrible professor. No powerpoints. Long, boring lectures. He's always late to class, takes 15 mins to set up his computer, but attendance is mandatory. So basically you sit there for 20 mins doing nothing. Take-home essay-style midterm. Few random assignments. Complete waste of my time taking this class.

His lectures are boring and talks too much throughout the whole class. He is rude when a person participates and gives his own opinion. There is a midterm(take home essay) and a final(take home essay). Tough grader on the papers. There is never homework for this class.

DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES TAUGHT BY CARLOS PEREZ! Unprofessional. Doesn't respond to student Emails. I had to have the DEAN of social science get in contact with him for me. Wanted to fail me for being absent for a few weeks due to my broken foot even though I did all assignments and turned them in on time. No powerpoint. Only boring lectures

I took this course for a mandatory upper division course. I ended up passing with a B. But the rules and expectations are a bit harsh. If you are late don't bother coming to class. You will be marked as absent, and 3 absences 1 letter grade. The tests and essays required have very little to do with the actual material. Good luck!

Terrible professor. His lectures do not reflect on the mid term and final. They are both written tests, expects great detail despite only having an hour or so to write. Mostly everyone in the class got 55 or 65 on the midterm. Has no filter, ignorant, very rude. If I ever see this man outside of class, he can catch hands. No hesitation.

I've taken Dr. Perez at City College & here at State. He's an expert in Latin American history & knowledgeable in Western history. If you wish to have an economic and political perspective of history, take Dr. Perez. If you wish to breeze through class, take something else. He does lament poor writing. But why not? We are uni students.

BEWARE!! Of the class and the professor. He is rude, arrogant, talks down to students, and is not clear of his expectations for writing assignments, then will yell at the whole class about how they write. DON'T take this class if you don't need to. The course information would have been useful and interesting if it wasn't taught by him.

Please, BEWARE of this man. He will assign work at the last minute and expect glorious work. The course overall is a joke with no clear emphasis or direction besides providing a pessimistic view at history. He WILL bully you to the point where it makes you want to drop. Not college professor material. Consider some other class, otherwise good luck!

He takes role each lecture, and all he does the entire class is talk. This way of teaching was very hard to keep up hearing someone talk the whole lecture with no interactions of the students and engagement, or power-points. He is very outspoken about people saying they are Mexican, if they were not born in Mexico.

I don't recommend this class for any student who have a hard time writing essays, he seriously grades hard on grammar & LOGICAL DEVELOPMENT. I had a 65% in the class after 2 assignments; i managed to pass his class with a B with an A on the book review and a B on the final. This class is passable if you study hard. The final helps out alot!

Dr. Perez is very knowledgeable, however he is incredibly arrogant. He will respond in a demeaning fashion if a student answers him in a way he feels is incorrect. He easily goes off on tangents that are completely irrelevant to the material. He will also single out one student to pick on the entire semester, hope you're not that student.

Very boring class and he gets off topic a lot. 2 papers which were fairly easy gives multiple topic to choose from which all come from the book. Test aren't very hard as long as you do the study guides.

You will not pass if you don't read the books required for the book since 60% of your grade consists of written assignments from the books. the other 40% is your final which is fairly easy with the study guide he gives out(answers are easy to find).

This professor did not teach me ANYTHING that was on either the mid-term, or the final. The grading criteria for his essays are ridiculous and with fail you because of missing page numbers. He goes off topic a lot, and is not helpful at all. IS NOT UP TO DATE WITH TECHNOLOGY so don't expect e-mails to be read. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROF. EVER.
