She's great! After a bad experience with Spanish in high school, Carmela helped me rekindle my love for the language in 201. While I felt it was mainly review for me, I don't feel as though I lost anything and am excited to take more classes with her!

I took Professor Ferradans's class that she taught with Professor Montgomery, and I really enjoyed it. Professor Ferradans wasn't as clear on assignments, but I know it's because she wanted us to think for ourselves. She has a great sense of humor, and she is also very nice.

Comment:

Carmela is an incredibly kind and hilarious woman. Her class is not easy, but you can do well if you put in the effort. She is a tough grader but she will read your rough draft and give feedback any time you ask. Sometimes she is not clear in explaining what is being assigned, but if you ask for clarity she will give a better explanation.

I am taking my third class with her and she is one of my favorite professors. If you need a ton of direction and are not diligently independent, you probably wont like her. She is extremely helpful, YOU just have to take initiative. She will meet for office hours and help you with anything. Let her help you because she would love to! Best profe.

she was all over the place. never knew what she assigned and when it was due. i feel like i did not learn much. don't think i would sign up for another class with her. i am a spanish major and i felt like the class made me backtrack and made me question my major.

Mixed feelings about her. She's fun and nice, but if she asks for your opinion on something, you'd better not respond unless yours is the same as hers. She grades a draft of your paper first, but if you have your own writing style, tough luck, because she'll revise your paper to fit her own style.

Most useless class ever! I thought it would be really interesting, but it's not at all! She's very disorganized and thinks about activities to do on the spot. She still made us have class on our own when she had to take her daughter to the hospital! Lots of readings, medium amount of meaningless writing assignments. She's okay for 210 but not 410.

She expects you to do the exercises out of the book, which she doesn't give back to you before the tests, and then wonders why you don't get things right on the tests. Class activities were not helpful, I felt like I taught myself more than I was taught. I used to really enjoy Spanish but I won't be taking any more classes here.

DO NOT take this class if you don't like poetry or like structured classes! The whole first half of the semester is based on poetry, and a LOT of writing. She'll give you extensions if you need it, but won't tell you what the assignment is. didn't feel like i could go in and talk to her...definitely not for me
