Extremely difficult to communicate with, and very inflexible. I had a family emergency with support documentation and she STILL refused to accommodate me in any way. I ended up dropping the class because she was so frustrating to try to reason with.

Comment:

Prof is great! as long as you interact in class or get to know her outside of her class. Very knowledgeable in her topics. PREPARE for LOTS of studying. Lectures are fast and in depth with over 100 individuals you must know about for the final exam! If you take this class, MAKE SURE you are solid at getting good grades for exams.

Comment:

Dr. Poulin seems like a wonderful, kind person but I wouldn't recommend taking a class with her unless it's mandatory. Her test questions are quite unfair, with at least 50% of them revolving around small details that are unnecessary. Combine both lectures and text (yes, they are different), and memorize everything if you expect to do well.

Carmen Poulin is an amazing lecturer but her tests were ridiculous! In all sincerity, they were beyond hard. If regular tests could be considered straight-forward and indicative of rote memorization, hers come in the form of TMI from left-field using a complicated transmutation of terms which requires an equally complex understanding of them.

Very passionate teacher with high expectations for her students. Don't bother taking her class if you aren't prepared to work really hard. You won't get away with slacking off here!!

I dropped this course: it is ridiculous. She gives you a textbook, from which you must know everything from, in addition, she gives you very detailed notes that are separate from the textbook: essentially this is two classes in one. The one midterm I took was sooooo hard. She scales, but it won't help. I have a 3.7 and could not do well. Beware!

Horrible prof, with no real interest in helping students that are having difficulties. Exams are extremely hard. When I did't pass her class, and had to take it online through another university, she strait out said that she didn't think I could do it. well... Proved her wrong, got an A. Its a shame shes allowed to teach.

Poulin is an enthusiastic professor. It is very important to attend lectures and to read the assigned readings. A lot of memorization required. I studied hard, made word webs for all the people with their important characteristics, and got an A+.

This was the worst class I have ever taken, she was the most horrible professor I have had in my 4 year university career, she didnt make any sense, her tests were ridiculous, and you can barely understand a word that she is saying.

GREAT CLASS!!! She is very approachable and has passion in her teaching. She will share stories and clarify any concerns. Her tests can be difficult but I suggest study groups...they really helped for this course. No slacking in this class!

She is a great person. Her lectures are always interesting and funny. But if you are looking for a bird course--keep on walking. Her quizzes are very indepth and require alot of studying. But if you aren't afraid of a little hard work, go for it. There was also a research project when I took it.

Dr. Poulin's classes rock. She's very empathetic with her student's situations and is very well read and well informed. Great sense of humor and classes are well organized and worth getting up for at 8:30a. Wish she taught more classes!
