Comment:
While Dr. Carol is an extremely caring professor, she lectures very little and relies on documentaries, other films, and student presentations to teach the class. I haven't learned much about her knowledge on the subject because she leaves it up to movies. No tests, several quizzes, and participation is a HUGE chunk of your grade. Presentations too

Amazing class & was my favorite class I took this semester. You don't even have to do the reading to pass. The info was interesting & relatable to real life. Carol is so caring & is willing to help you with anything you need. Discussion based class, easy grader, alternative final (you basically do what you want and relate it to class) 10/10

So, she clearly cares for her students and the topic (gender and diversity), but this is one of the most frustrating classes I have taken. The quizzes are impossible and no matter how much I prepare I haven't gotten above a C. Her grading on papers seems to be a little erratic, on one paper she is not picky and on another she's very picky.

Very open to listening to student's opinions. It's pretty much discussion and video based so as long as you read and pay attention you shouldn't have an problems. However, you can't miss more than 2 class without and excuse or she'll drop you and entire letter grade

Her gender and violence class was a very interesting topic but she has been the worst professor I've taken at Xavier. if you give your actual opinion prepare to be shot down unless it's what she believes in. her papers are ok if you right from the standpoint that she believes in. and her quizzes are impossible prepare to get an F

This class topic was Gender and violence, so the course covered a lot of difficult material. Dr. Winkelmann was very passionate about feminism and certainly cared about the issues and the students. Her class was highly discussion-based, so participation is essential. Her papers were short, but she was a tough grader.

Winkelman is HORRIBLE! She is lazy, does a horrific job of leading class discussion. Fobs you off of the library staff as she does nothing. I can't believe she is still "teaching" (collecting a check). If you suck up to her ego and don't mind paying a mint for absolutely nothing you can use in your career after this class you won't be let down!

Coral is a great professor! she is really interested in the topic of gender and violence studies. I totally understand where she's coming from. if you go to her office hours she is a great help. only a few 1 page papers and quizzes along with class discussions and you'll do fine.

She's interesting to say the least. 4 1 page papers and a couple 12 point multiple choice quizzes. No final and as much extra credit as your heart desires. Gender and violence is very fun and interesting. For 205 I would definitely take her if you can.

WORST professor at Xavier. her grading makes zero sense and she is the least articulate, most biased professor I've ever had. She ruined the class for me.

I liked this class (gender and diversity focus) much more than I expected. It was a blended format with a few class meetings for discussion, a video, and final project presentation. The rest was done online. This was really nice, we could read and comment on classmates' work. Deep emotional readings. I would recommend, fair grading for effort.

So Winkelmann isn't the most organized or articulate teacher, but she is compassionate and genuinely interested in both the material and her students. She doesn't require much, and she teaches from a very personal place. I respect her and although the class is relatively erratic, she is worth taking.

My favorite professor. Although we found ourselves on different ends of the political spectrum, that was never held against me. The question she most often asked was, "Why". She doesn't care what you believe, as long as you can defend your position and she'll respect you for it. Best Teacher I have had at Xavier

previous comments said that she is a bad teacher only wants students to see things her way; that is SO NOT TRUE. she is one of the easiest teachers and one of the coolest. if u talk and say meaningful things she praises u, not disagrees with u.I would highly recommend her class. all u do is discuss stuff how hard is that. not alot of work at all.

Worst teacher I've ever had anywhere. Grades based on whether you say what she wants to hear (I had to lie in my papers in order to get a decent grade). Automatically grades men lower, also. Sometimes makes comments to students that are extremely mean and hurtful. I'm female and very liberal, but she's made me embarrassed to call myself a feminist.
