The best I've taken in University (even though it was a night class!). Prof Foster is extremely profound and an excellent speaker. Makes you think and every class was extremely captivating. If you want a different experience than just cramming your brain with the same old theories and mechanical facts, take his class!

Very interesting and intelligent professor. He does require you to think outside the box and you have to actually pay attention in class to do well. Once you get used to his style you will love him! He is very funny too- has a dry sense of humor.

I have never been challenged to think so deeply about a course. I always left each class feeling that I had gained tremendous insight into society and democracy. This man is actually probably a genius and is a really nice man who I wanted to hug each lecture.

He's a decent prof, he could be more dynamic with his teaching style but, overall I found his classes engaging and relatively easy if you put in a bit of effort. No need to buy the text, just come to the lectures.

do NOT take his classes. 2nd most boring class i've taken at university and the material isn't even that bad. his lecture style is halting, slow and painfully boring. also very unorganized; he lost my friends final essay and gave her an 'incomplete' in the course by accident. i would definitely avoid, unless youre looking for a solid naptime.

Can be very boring. Read his book and go to class, you dont need the other text book. Just remeber that everything is a social construction. Tries to get students to think about things differently and can be thought provoking. Take good notes in class and you will do well.

An amazing prof. His teaching style is very discussion-based, if you are one who hates class discussions, do not take this. Also, I think it's definitely mandatory to attend classes to understand the course -- the textbook reading only helps to add clarity to his lectures. One of the best classes I've taken in University. Very thought provoking

Professor Foster is a brilliant individual who speaks about cultural identies from so many different perspectives that it makes you re-think a lot of assumptions you held before taking his course. His course has been the most useful and relevant course I have EVER taken in university, and I am not even a SOAN major! Highly recommended.

One of those prof.s where you either love his teaching style or completely hate it. I thought his lectures were really interesting and i actually did really well without reading much of the books. Exams are really easy. Just have to be prepared to pay attention and take quite a few notes.

I have taken 2 courses with him. His Soc 2390 class was far better than Soan 2290 because the class participated.He is great lecturer, but what makes his classes the best i found were his responce to class discussion.In Soc 2390 he had a huge impact on the way that i viewed our society. I learned alot.Definitly one of the best profs i have ever had

I was excited about taking his course in the beginning, but after a few lectures I realized that he is very dull....lifeless. He does not put anything extra when he lectures, he is just very confusing and hard to listen to. He is a smart man, but I think he tries to be too smart.

Comment:

I went to a few of his Soc 1100 lectures when I was still in highschool. That was HORRENDOUS. You could tell he wasn't interested. However, when I took his SOC 2390 class, I absolutely loved him and the class. It was his specialty, so it was most excellent.
