Comment:
Rarely explains material in a thorough and detailed manner, often confuses himself halfway through an explanation, and tends to forget his notes for lecture. Class work is very stressful but graded generously. Good personality but bad at gauging student comprehension and preparedness.

Professor Goodman-Strauss tends to spend a considerable amount of time proving theorems in lecture, which doesn't contribute to student understanding very much. However, he lives and breathes math, and is always willing to meet with you outside of class.

He is awful, he grades homework poorly and doesn't ever put in grades in blackboard. He spent half the semester working on one part of linear algebra, then the next half doing 90% of the course, it was rushed and I couldn't learn. In office hours he is dismissive and treats you like he doesn't want you there, even though he requires them.

Great professor. Gets lost in his lectures/proofs sometimes when he doesn't plan his class (which is often), but he really has a contagious passion for the subject.

If you don't wanna learn math from a textbook, don't take him for an honors class. He teaches some subjects really well but others not well at all. It was hit or miss for me, which is tough to do in a math class. If you're not willing to put in an effort, take regular Cal 3

Dr. Goodman-Strauss knows the material very well and in general did a good job teaching Honor's Cal 3. However, his grading criteria wasn't very clear and he took a very long time to return assignments. He was always available to answer questions but expected a lot out of his students. His teaching style is quite abstract but usually effective.

CGS frustrates me. I have so many questions and he takes so long to answer one little detail. He could make the material easier but provides nearly useless elaboration on a subject. Expects you in his office a lot which can be hard when you have class or work. I don't recommend him.

If you have the choice between regular linear algebra or abstract, take regular. I go to office hours for him to tell me to what extent my proofs are wrong. I can't get a clear cut answer from him and play a constant guessing game for the answer. His teaching is not my style. I learn from examples and in this class, you generate your own answers.

Favorite math class I've taken so far. He expects you to be prepared for class everyday. reluctant to teach if class is unprepared. Has a different way of teaching this class which isnt for everyone. Be prepared to spend lots of time outside of class. I would say highly recommend, but you dont have a choice if you have to take this class. It's his.

Abnormally high expectations. Easy enough to get an A, but difficult to be in the class. Daily work presentation required by entire class.

Never teaches in class. Has insanely high expectations, such as students constantly presenting material in class that has never before been seen. Basically an excuse for him to never work. Going to office hours (required) is him telling you how stupid you are. Tests (take-home) are extremely long and difficult. Takes forever to grade. Avoid.

Doesn't teach in class. Students just present their work. If you want to be taught, you have to come to office hours. Helpful at office hours. Just a lot of out of class time you have to commit (plus homework time). No book. No real structure to course.

This class is awesome if you don't mind doing a lot of work outside of the class. The content is extremely interesting and there are no tests or quizzes. Show up to class, be involved and you will love it. Automatic C to anyone who does minimum work. Getting a B or an A, however,is extremely difficult. Good luck, and have fun with the Wiki!

I loved this class. There are no tests and no quizes. If you do all the journal entries you are guaranteed a C. Then he gives you chances to make your grade higher like working on the website or harvesting bamboo. Also, what we learned about actually made me like math! No text book needed.

Gave no sense of what was required. To get better than a C you had to put in a ridiculous amount of time outside of class. He knows what he is talking about but most of all I would not recommend taking math in society or MATH 2033.

He defines awful professor. His examples are, "You start with this function, do some magic, and come up with something sort of like this." When you go to his office hours, he refuses to help because, "I worked that example in class." He has the audacity to give you faulty help during office hours so you cannot finish homework before it is due.

I had him for regular cal II, and he was ok. He's not always very clear, and he doesn't usually have time to work examples in class. The drills are not at all helpful, but that's usually where you take the quiz.
