Ames is a nice guy, he really is...but if you want to learn from HIM and not read....don't take him. If you are fine with doing all work outside and studying and being lazy in class, he's good for you! I personally hated him as a teacher but he is a nice guy!! He does not make things clear at all....but he is not mean. Hard test though

He will do anything and everything to try and help you pass his class, but that's the hardest part: PASSING. He veers off topic frequently, and hardly will lecture about the actual material. His lectures set the scene for the reading/note taking you NEED to do at home. And i stress that... you MUST take your own notes to pass.

I`d recommend Dr. Ames if you enjoy learning history and if you like more experienced professors. He has a LOT of stories to tell, although they are usually not related to the subject. Reading the text and taking notes are how you pass: you can`t do one or the other. Overall he wants to see you succeed, and will do anything to help you do so.

Over all Ames is a great teacher, sometimes it's hard to follow the lecture as he covers the deatil not in the text books. Wants students to learn and willing to give you a 2nd chance on exams which is a plus-the exams are difficult but graded on a curve. Take good notes and ask questions-bulk of the exams are lecture notes.

Very nice guy. Hard to understand what he is saying sometimes and where he is in the text. No study guide, studied for hours and test was still VERY hard. Ended up w. A C+ but had to work my butt off; one of the hardest classes I've taken.

do not take him! you will regret it! i have a 3.9 GPA, and i had to drop his class because i could not understand ANYTHING he said. he does not give any study guides for tests and told us that we needed to decide what was important. he is ridiculous! i really cant believe that everybody else is saying they liked him. do not take him! seriously!

He is a difficult teacher and I was going to give him a lower grade but it just wouldn’t be fair. Professor Ames is such a nice guy and he is constantly there for his students. Unbelievable communication through email, prompt with everything. He is there for you before and after class. I would def. reccomend. Just read and pay attention!

One of the nicest and funniest teachers at SSC. He is a pretty difficult professor and he tends to be extremely unorganized when teaching the material...but just be sure to write everything down and organize it yourself in your notes and you'll be fine. He's a fairly easy grader and he actually manages to make history interesting

(101, 102, 204) I took professor Ames for 3 courses and enjoyed them all. He tries to add some humor into the lectures but his jokes aren't very good. Not the easiest professor but you'll learn about History and isn't that what its all about? I'd definitely take him again. He wants you to do well

This guy is awesome. He's very nice and wants everyone to pass. You do have to listen in class, because that's half the exam. Sometimes he seems kind of out there, but he knows what he's talking about.

Very knowledgable. It will take a couple of meetings in the class to get used to his method of teaching. He may seem of the map at times but, he will bring everthing together at the end of the lecture.
