He's a nice guy, but he's far too old to still be teaching. He stands directly in front of what he's illegibly writing on the board, and talks into the chalkboard so you can't hear. He's never prepared for class. Instead of making sure that everything works before lab, he spends half of our lab trying to figure out why the equipment isn't working.

He is very old school, but I am thoroughly glad I took his LAB. You have to know how to draw organic structures for every compound you work with. The final is fairly simple having had him. Likes the ladies.

I thought Dr. Beam did a great job teaching Organic Chemistry. I enjoyed his enthusiasm and explanation of mechanisms. You have to study a lot and he dropped a test which was very helpful.

Big deal! He won an award!!! Here we are talking about how he teaches an undergraduate class, how he relates to his students and how his demeanor is in the classroom... He is useless for Cofc. except that Cofc can claim that they have a prof in the school that won the whatever award that is, nothing more. Dr. Beam is not a shining jewel. PERIOD.

Doc Beam just won a national award for excellence in teaching and undergraduate research from the American Chemical Society. A NATIONAL award. No amout of whining by lazy students can change this. Have you tried studying ? yes it will take some effort, good luck.

It is time to retire my friend. He is a nice enough guy, but is probably the worst teacher I have had at the college. He expects you to be a pro at organic before he teaches anything. He just rambles on, and makes a lot of mistakes. Gives quizes at the start of every class. Avoid if possible, but if you take him, be prepared to teach yourself.

Very hard professor. You learn very little in lecture and end up having to teach it to yourself from the textbook. I'm studying everyday for several hours and I barely have a B. He is understanding when it comes to some things and he does give great study guides for the tests. Some of the questions on the test come straight from the study guide.

Oh come on people...Organic is not a class that's dependent on the teacher. You have to do problems out of the book and take good notes. That is exactly what I did, and I got an A in the class. The rest of you all just have to admit you weren't doing enough to do well and just suck it up.

Ok people, gezz he is not that bad. I mean honestly for tests study the freaking study guides and look at the book's problems for a change. He is not a great teacher thats for sure, but he is not atrocious either. After taking notes for lec. go back through the book while looking over your notes. He isn't easy, but organic shouldn't be easy.

Has to be the WORST PROFESSOR EVER. He is incredibly smart, but he cannot convey the material to the students. He only gave one clear lecture throughout the semester, and that was because the department chair sat in. He is slightly helpful one on one, but still is not that pleasant if you are doing poorly in the class.

Bad! Bad! Bad! Worst teacher ever. I want my money back from CofC since they allow someone like this to teach this class, or any class for that matter. RUN...As fast as you can. This class will be a waste of your time. Organic is a very important class...and you could learn more from a monkey.
