I definitely recommend taking physics with him! He is nice and really wants his students to succeed. He tells a lot of stories and jokes that aren't funny which makes class boring, but if you do the work you will pass. He explains everything and he answers all questions. All tests are from the homework. which he reviews in class. DO NOT BUY BOOK

He is an amazing teacher and one of the nicest professors at umass. He really does care about his students and is always available for office hours. Anyone that thinks he is a terrible teacher clearly doesn't care enough to go to his class and learn anything.

Super nice teacher! The tests can be kind of difficult but at the end of the semester he might make the final your overall grade. So don't give up if it seems tough. Tutoring before each exam helped me big time.

I spent two semesters with this man and I am so glad it's over. Sure, the course is easy, but putting up with his lame jokes, creepy flirting and his increasingly disenchanted opinion of teaching wasn't worth the A's. Time to retire.

He is a fun professor. He has numerous comical stories and comebacks. Attendance is non mandatory. You should do your online homework; its important. He goes over material and homework in class. Test can range from the difficulty of the topic. I recommend taking his class.

This guy is the man. The only class I actually looked forward to going to. He is hysterical. Do the homework to help you on tests, which aren't usually too bad. Go to class because he explains how to figure out the homework if you're stuck. You'll learn a lot. Very fair grader. I definitely recommend taking him!

Really nice guy, very funny. Not the best teacher b/c he makes a lot of mistakes while teaching. Sometimes he goes on these rants. Tests can get difficult. You really need to know everything for the test b/c he asks tricky questions. Do the hw b/c it brings up your grade. Go to class b/c he shows you how to do the hw problems.

Professor Nickles is an awesome teacher. He loves physics and wants his students to as well. He is clear and hysterical. Online homework is from the book and tests are from the homework. I had no physics experience but loved this class!!!

Professor Nickles is a great guy. The thing he cares about more than anything is that you understand the material. You'll get an A if you just ask questions. If you ask him a question during a test he practically tells you what to do. He's also hilarious... I highly recommend him!

Prof. Nickles is a really good teacher. First of all I suck at physics and never took it in high school. I ended up just passing with a C but it took me a lot to get there because I went to him for help. Its definately a hard class but he is very good at teaching the material especially if you go to him for help.

1. Professors should be hired because they got their degree in some form of teaching, regardless of how much experience they have in a field. Not every smart, I've-had-30yrs-of-experience person knows how to teach their students so they can do well. 2. UMass should find a way of separating physics/engineering students from ppl needing a gen ed req.

Really hard class - much too hard for a 101. Rambled in class..surprise quizzes. Online homework problems are good for practice but they don't bring your grade up too much. Tests were a lot harder than the hw problems. Could use formula sheet on tests. I emailed him if I couldn't understand something.. he told me to see a tutor if I needed help.

Tough class but Nickles makes it do-able. Questions are based on problems in class and hw problems. Equation sheets can be used on exams. Final was tough, Lots of information. This was my second time taking 101, SO much easier with Nickles than when I took it with Crawford :( Avoid crawford at all costs!!!

do not take 101 if you haven't had anything beyond an intro to physics class before. class should have been easy considering it is a 101, but it wasn't. prof will say, hey! some of u guys r obviously doing your hw and getting this!....yeah, duh! half of the kids r physics or engineering majors. ...unfair

First year teaching class. He didnt understand the material himself, so it was impossible for him to teach. he rambled on about nothing all class. there were never any notes and no reviews before a test. almost every one in the class failed the tests, yet he would give no extra credit, the lowest test was dropped. dont take this class.

Nickles is the man. He makes a difficult subject matter easy to understand and is always willing to help his students understand sample problems. If you do the homework and follow his examples in class, the exams are easy. He's also willing to drop the lowest test grade if it seems like you were having an off day. The man is hysterical too!
