He is a very intelligent professor, but does not use lecture slides so it can be hard to follow what's happening in class. Make sure to read the book and DO EVERY SINGLE PROBLEM. If you do not do all the book problems, you will not pass the tests. Sections were optional (very useful) and the tests were fair compared to the practice ones.

His reminder sheets were amazing, I'd say for the final just put all the reactions in a flow sheet and problems from the practice final, but I'm going to have to memorize reactions over break. To do well READ and do all the hw problems (the whole class is only graded on 2 midterms and a final) they (the ! ones) basically show up on the tests.

Only use the board and his voice in lectures (no ppt or podcast), so be prepared to read beforehand. He is good at explaining things (if you already read that section). Exams are not too hard since you can have cheat sheet (curve is generous if class is bad). Do his recommended hw (should have a solution manual to check) and you will be fine.

Read Chapters and finish all assigned homework ON TIME. Be aware of negative points ( points eared positive points- negative points) for each question. I had a really terrible TA, Garry. He was just terrible. OMG, kept talking about how we cant get into Med school if we dont do better. Perrin teaches like if he is presenting to a bunch of PhDs.

Make sure you read the textbook before class because Professor Perrin does not slow down. He does a good job explaining things but you need to read ahead of time if you want to understand anything. Tests are very fair and based completely off of textbook problems. Beware as he does not podcast and only uses the blackboard.

He's a really caring professor (go to office hrs and he'll try his best to know you/your name)! Read before going to lectures because you won't understand what he's talking about and think everything is rushed. Do all the hw problems because he picks from those for the exams. Fair exams/ get a cheat sheet. No online hw, just midterms and final.

He simplifies the material so that the students can understand it more thoroughly. He holds review sessions before the exams. There is about a 15%-20% curve applied to the course.

This man has no pause button; basically gives you half a dozen concepts each class without even a 30- second pause for you to digest the information. His tests are nothing like the (very few) examples he goes over in class and they are somewhat similar to the hardest hw problems. Ochem is already hard but with Perrin its nearly impossible.

Beware of negative points. exams are calculated by total points per question minus negative points per question. So, lets say if question 10 had parts a,b,c, and d and each one had 5pts and you answered 2 right and 2 wrong your total pain is 10-100. A big fat zero. Thanks for nothing Perrin.

Perrin is a great lecturer, though he is a bit old. His class is considered relatively easy since he curves the average as B- rather than a C. He also allows cheat sheets for exams, which is AMAZING. Especially when using for synthesis problems The exams were representative of the hw q's and stuff we learned in lecture. Helpful to read txtbook.

The only thing I recommend students who will take Dr. Perrin's course: DO ALL ASSIGNED PROBLEMS INCLUDING EXERCISES!!!! And go to his office hour and review sessions to ask any questions you have. He is really nice, caring, and enthusiastic professor! His course is not easy A but if you solve all problems he assigned, you can get an A! Good luck!:)

This was a class I feel hard to say. I got around average (B-) on first midterm and second midterm. And I felt I would end with a B- or lower for the class, but surprisingly, I got A. I have to say, final means a lot, seriously, a lot. Final had 550 points, first midterm 200 points, second midterm 250 points. Prepare well for final!!

Dr. Perrin is a good professor. He assigns questions with exclamation points on the that will show up on the midterm. So if you do the practice problems literally 6-7 times you should be able to get an A in his class. But only sign up for the class if you have time to. If you're balancing other hard classes I would take ochem another quarter.

It's Ochem, so it's automatically hard. However Perrin makes it easier. Just two midterms and a final, and the average person will do terribly on all 3 so you probably need only like 70 percent for A. I thot I did horrible, and ended up getting an A. Its vry clear what u have to do: he assigns problems, and uses those exact ones for tests: do them.

I decided to take Organic Chemistry another year. KEY TO A: PREPARE! I REALLY wanted to take his class, but the time commitment for this class is a lot, and I already have a lot on my plate. As I've heard from others, his tests are representative of the problems in the book and are fairly difficult. In conclusion, GREAT professor, but HARD class.

You must do all the hw questions, especially those with ! by them, to do decently. I got a C and regret doing better if I understood how to problems betters. He explains things well but you just need to figure out how to do the homework to do decently. His exams are tricky since he'll tweak hw problems, but you do get a "reminder" sheet to help.

He's the god of ochem. His explanations of the concepts are very clear and he allows a cheat sheet on all the exams. His exams are quiet difficult (50-55% average typically)but he curves well, and I ended up with an A. Homework and attending office hours is key to doing well in the class! Would recommend him for 140A!
