This professor is excellent and always willing to help, i struggled in the beginning but i kept up with it and got the help i needed and at the end had an A in the course. Its not easy but its college, seriously guys no class is worth it if it doesn't push you somehow.Kind, sarcastic ,and very knowledgeable.Get coffee just in case, you need focus.

A very interesting professor. I know he reads these so I'll keep it honest. Overall, great. Very intelligent and very much willing to help his students. Some of his questions are mind-numbingly specific, so I applaud anyone who can get over a 70 average on his quizzes, but this is by design. As long as you study hard for midterms, you will be fine.

While the textbook readings were incredibly long and boring, his lectures weren't bad. I would divide the readings up with a classmate or two, then share notes. He's incredibly brilliant and really knows his stuff. Even though he says half of the exam questions come from readings, I'd say 80% really comes from lectures, so make sure you go to them.

Incredibly difficult to get through the assigned textbook readings, but other than that the class wasn't too bad. The quizzes vary in difficulty(and never seem to be the difficulty he thinks)but it is easy enough to do well on one to make up for another bad one. Insanely intelligent in what he teaches. Pops some jokes/funny stories once in a while.

GREAT professor. Don't expect it to be an easy A. Textbook readings are long and dense, but dates are most important. Quizzes are hit or miss, but exams are easy if you pay attention and do readings. REALLY values improvement over exams to final

Despite being hard, it was one of the best courses I have taken at Lehigh because of the teacher. He is amazing, knows so much about the subject and is very enthusiastic and genuinely wants all of his students to do well. He is entertaining and informative as well as kind and helpful. Take a course with him. Work hard and it will pay off

Eccentric for sure, but clearly very knowledgeable in the subjects he teaches (Roman Religion in particular). Don't expect any of his classes to be extremely easy.

Extremely interesting. His quizzes you either know or don't, but it doesn't matter because they don't count for much, just study for the exams and it's an easy class. This man is absolutely hilarious and interesting. If he taught in the afternoon I would definitely take him again, but the 7:55 start time is killer to me.

I took this course fairly confident with my ability to do well and was shocked with how difficult the class was. He's a fair grader but I was doing poorly, even with studying every night. The material was interesting, but I reccomend you don't take the class. Oh, and he's a reasonably attractive older man with a great sense of humor.

Awesome professor! His roman history class is REALLY interesting, and I'm not some big history buff or anything. It is kind of a lot of work for an intro class, but totally worth it. This guy is rad!

One of the best professors at Lehigh. I could listen to this guy talk for days. Incredibly knowledgeable on the subject and fills his lectures with interesting hypotheses and current issues among historians. Overall, tests/quizzes are fair and he's pretty generous with grading. I don't see where the harsh difficulty reviews are coming from.

Heavy emphasis on both the lectures and the text book, so learn both. I personally found the course to be difficult because I'm not a natural with social studies, but Phillips couldn't have been more helpful. If you ask for his help, he will do everything to help you achieve your goal, even if it means coming in to help you on his day off.

The best professor I've had so far at Lehigh. He gives awesome lectures and is really interesting. The class is at 8:10 but it is completely worth it. As long as you listen to him and take him seriously and read the book like he says, you'll be fine.

Amazing professor. Loved the class, even though it was at 8am --would never take an 8am other than his EVER. Really knows his Roman History. Class is mandatory, but I really didn't mind. Hilarious sense of humor. No one else in your class will get it, but you'll be laughing to yourself.

He tries to be pretty fair. Knows his material very well. Probably the best in the classics dept. Exams and Quizzes (Some Pop Quizzes) split 50/50 from readings and lectures. Really the whole book needs to be read and every lecture necessary. This class is not "fluff" as he says. Work is required.

He knows *everything* about Classics. Even though most of his classes are lecture-based, because he knows so much they're interesting. Doesn't put up with students looking for an easy grade, but respects those who are willing to work for it, even if they're only C-students. He's a typical Classics professor, but the best @ Lehigh. Take a class!

One of the best Professors at Lehigh. Knows the subject matter just about as well as anyone the world over (not joking). Funny too. If you love ancient history in all it's aspects, are a decently hard worker, and don't miss class, you will do very well and have fun doing it. People who rate him poorly are poor students...or in the wrong place.

Splits his exams 50/50 between book and lectures. Book is pretty dry, take notes or else you won't have a clue to what's going on. Lectures are great, even at 8 AM. The guy is absolutely hilarious. Take this class if you want to work a fair amount and have fun doing it.

Phillips is very amusing and enthusiastic. I loved going to class and doing the readings. The class was only 3 credits, and I definitely did at least 4 credits worth of work. The grading was kind of screwy. The exams are very tough (study very hard) but he gives extra credit on the exams if you explain your answers better than he expects you to
