Charles Putnam is by far one of the best professors I've ever had and for good reason as he explains the material very well and can relate it to other subjects. I had him for CIT 101/L and COMP 108 Spring 2013, got two A's. Had him for 182/L Spring 2014 and got a C. Too bad he retired. Nice man. Would take him again if I had the chance.

He is a good teacher, good guy, but his best teaching days are behind him. He does his best to explain the theory aspect of things. Sometimes his explanations are good. Sometimes (most times). you will be scratching your head. To pass, ask him to clarify points after class, you absolutely must read the book, and find other material to help you.

Putnam should not be teaching. Listen to all the reviews here when they say that he should retire. I went to class almost every class, and I definitely did not need too. I showed up to class more than he did. I had fun just because the friends I made in the class and we would laugh at him. It was fun, and very sad that we weren't learning a thing.

Terrible. Gave me wrong grade. Lost my work. Never replied to any emails. Met up during my own time to change grade. Still hasn't submitted papers for grade change. Save yourself some trouble. This professor is a buffoon.

Putnam is a total joke, he is not suitable for teaching high education classes, either you work hard for class or not you will receive unexpected grade. I guess he looks at your name when he posts grades and if he likes your name he will give you an A. Dont ever ever ever take him!!! CS department please fire him!

He's falling apart on many levels. Complete waste of a semester. Zero feedback, zero communication. Awful mumbling and ranting lectures. If you're a student who's had him and you're reading this. please join me and make a formal written complaint to the CS department so we can end this.

Putnam is one of the worst experiences that I had at the college level. He is has gotten to old to teach and has to miss class a lot presumably for his health problems. His lectures are very hard to understand not only because of the material but also because of his mumbling. I didn't learn anything in his class. Try to avoid.

Putnam is really nice, but is not fit to teach. Over the coarse of this semester he has shown up late many times and on top of that he takes around 8-20 mins to get ready. He is hard to understand and the lectures are dull. The class is very easy though, but you have to learn the material on your own.

This class was a complete joke and waste of time. He is incompetent and unfit to teach any course, but the CS department still keeps him around. Do yourself a favor and avoid taking any class with him.

Normally, when students say they have not learned anything, it is usually lack on the students part. This is not the case for this professor. As we reach the end of the semester, I can assure you my peers and I have learned nothing. We have a final coming up, & we are all worried because this has been a waste of a class,& we may fail over nothing.

Professor Putnam is old and not really fit to teach. However he is really nice and willing to help you if you have a clear question. If you want to take his class. Please teach yourself before you come into the semester. If you read half the book, you will find the projects and hw to be a breeze. Lesson : Study on your own, and you will flourish.

I turned in projects that wouldn't even compile and received a solid B+. I hardly show up too... as long as you don't write anything too far-fetched on the midterm and exam you'll get an easy B, and if you put in some effort to learn yourself, probably an A. Actually, just bug him and you'll get an A.

Charles Putnam is in no way fit to teach college classes anymore. He prefers to go on tangent stories than to teach JAVA. He tries to teach computer architecture subjects to a java data structure class. Yes, the computer architecture is important but it is no way related to java data structures. I don't know why CSUN still lets this man teach. sigh

Prof Putnam is a mess. He should retire. Does not help me at all. He slept on me when I was in his office hours! We had 4 projects, 7 hws, 1 midterm, and 1 final. All of them I had to work with others to get it completed, but still the prof didn't accept it. It's a struggle trying to please him with my projects. Don't take him! Easy grader, though.

Entirely learned this class with the other classmates. He barely taught us anything. A classmate and I had a project that had an error and we knew what the problem was but did not know a solution to the problem. We then asked him and it took him 2 hours to locate the problem, which we constantly told him what it was, and still didn't fix it.

The WORST professor I have ever had. Can not teach because when he does he just confuses the class gives insane projects that most people cannot complete. You will learn entirely on your own. The midterm and lab exams are ridiculously hard. Cancels class a lot though. Never take EVER its better to wait until a better professor teaches this class.

Professor Putnam is a really good professor I had him for COMP 108 and CIT 101/L Spring 2013 and got A's, I decided to register for his Data Structures course, that's how good he is. Don't rethink take all COMP classes with him if possible, if you read the book you'll get an easy A and an A looks perfect on your transcript.

I had Professor Putnam for two courses in Spring 2013 COMP 108 and CIT 101/L and he was a great professor. This guy definitely knows just about everything there is to know about a Computer and he is very well-versed in his material. I got A's in both of his courses, you can't do any harm by taking his courses as he's a great professor.
